Something I love about this game is that it's very fair. The metaprogression is not at all necessary to beat the game; every area signposts its difficulty level very clearly and there are lots of ways to get out of bad situations if you get in over your head, so it really feels like your fault every time you die. It only took me a couple of tries to get the achievement for finishing the game with the very first dungeonmans.

I picked up this game a while ago because of Splat's videos about it. Love to see it circled back to! It's a great example of the genre.

This is one of my favourite traditional roguelikes and the one I always recommend to people, because it's very accessible and basically exactly what they want. If they were hardcore grognard then they'd already have ascended Nethack or whatever, this is the game for people who just want the classic arcadey fantasy of turn based tile based dungeon crawling and looting and shooting.

Thank you for your Videos, i enjoy them and often or not i bought a game based on your videos.

If anyone is looking for a similar game to this, I recommend checking out Elona Plus. It's a fork of an old niche Japanese roguelike which plays quite similarly to Dungeonmans, but with more depth and way longer campaign length. In fact it got so much content now that I'd probably classify it more as an open world rpg than a roguelike.
@JimShepard Жыл бұрын
Elona is amazing and was a big inspiration for me, I'll always be thankful for it. It's goofy, fun, deep as you want it to be, everyone who likes roguelikes should give it a try.

TOME and Dungeonmans are the two main roguelikes I've played. I'd say it's very similar in gameplay. It has less variety in terms of builds, and is a bit more randomized, but they're actually pretty similar games. TOME is a difficult game to top, so it's not as good, but it's definitely good. If you want something similar (a sprite roguelike with a good UI that plays basically the same) there's nothing better out there.
