In the game I run, I've been building a town by 'monsters' that are typically evil, except not in this town. I've been trying to figure out a good 2nd in command, and your explanation of the Jinn just filled the slot perfectly. Thank you, even if it is over a year after you posted this.

Dao: "Oh... you killed and wrecked your way here. You earned me as an enemy." **Dao sinks into the ground** Player: "What the f^ck?" DM (me): Your enemy has fled successfully. Player: "No!" DM (me): You defeated your enemy. He fled. You have the experience points. Player: "NO! I must kill him!" DM (me): Sorry, you did not have that ability. He easily escaped. He did abandon his treasure room. Player: "GOD! I must now venture there as the next struggle and not the reward" DM (me)L Given your experience, yes. Given your experience, you are an enemy to a Dao. If you leave the treasure room alone, he may almost forget you. By almost, he will only send a task force only once to try to kill you and get all your loot to his lair.

One of the things that I was really upset about with 5e is that the dao are no longer beholden to the yak-folk. That was such a fun part of their backstory and Wizards just nixed it with a throwaway line in the appendix of SKT. They really deserved so much more.

Does Dao powder have any magical or alchemical application?
@arhangelserbia4 жыл бұрын
I’m 100% certain there’s bard alchemist somewhere out there who tried (successfully?) to use Dao powder in specific potions which are supposed to make certain things rock hard.

How much weight can a being with 23 in strength carry, exactly? Like, how much can they bench? What about a creature with 16 strength? Or 10 strength? Or anything inbetween? Are there any solid numbers for this?
@AJPickett6 жыл бұрын
Their carrying capacity is their Strength score multiplied by 15. This is the weight (in pounds) that they can carry as a regular load. They can heave, push, drag, or lift a weight in pounds up to twice their carrying capacity (or 30 times their Strength score) but speed drops to 5 feet. The important thing to remember with monsters is that larger creatures can bear more weight, whereas Tiny creatures can carry less. For each size category above Medium, double the creature's carrying capacity and the amount it can push, drag, or lift. For a Tiny creature, halve these weights. So a Huge creature with a strength of 23 can carry 1035 pounds and lift up to 2010 pounds, or just over a ton.

I never realized till recently that "Dao" were an original creation of TSR and copyrighted, hence why in Pathfinder the genie of the Earth are the Sheitans, not evil, but they also take salves but I suppose treats them better then the Efreeti. They also created the Lava Children in that cannon.

In many of my campaigns, I have a Sword (or other weapon) of The Genies. It has multi-elemental weapon bonuses to hit and damage against enemies it is used against. Touching the elemental signal summons the genie of that element who is released after granting the wish, the weapon bonus(es) is lost. The Jann is usually the best choice as the least is lost from the weapon and they only want to grant the wish and leave. The Djinn is the next best choice as they will happily grant what you seem to actually want then leave with the 2nd worst powers removed; air, rain, and shock. The hardest wishes to not be screwed by and hardest decisions are relative to the other genies released. Efreet is the absolute worst. They Wish Weapon Efreet will do his best to twist not only every word but every vowel and inflection.

Well, I have an Ecology of the Tavern video to do for my Patreon subscribers (they get to request a topic for one video per month, anyone who pledges at least a buck a month gets access to those exclusive vids), and have a video to do on the Dexterity attribute, inspired by an excellent video uploaded recently by Dorks of Yore, then I wanted to get into Goblinoids, with more in depth vids on Orcs, Goblins, Hobgoblins, Bugbears and Ettins. And of course, more vids on the Nine hells, and the big one.. intro to the Abyss!

Is there a reason you didn't cover the other genies that weren't in the monster manual you mentioned in your last video? Or are you going to make a separate video for the khayal, qorrashi, and the tasked genies?
@AJPickett8 жыл бұрын
Yes, I realised I needed to make a video about the genasi and more oddball elemental folks, so, you are quite correct in your guess.
