According to all known laws of aviation, there is no way that a Tressym should be able to fly. Its wings are too small to get its fat little body off the ground. The Tressym, of course, flies anyways. Because Tressyms don't care what humanoids think is impossible.

I can't help but wonder how tressym and wererats would react to each other. I think tressym would be able to sniff out wererats, even in "human" form and just for that wererats would really hate and fear them. I could definitely see a murderous war break out with regular citizens being very confused. They may invite adventurers over to find out why their beloved tressym are disappearing and why tryssym will team up with dogs and regular cats all of a sudden to attack normal people. That could be the first sign of a wererat nest infesting a town.

@@Michael-fd1gx That has got to be every "good" wererat's worst nightmare. The only thing is, what would be their alignment? Maybe true neutral or chaotic neutral? I can't imagine them being lawful or evil in nature. I do think they would be protective toward people who treat them well.
@That80sGuy19722 жыл бұрын
Wererats (and other AD&D monsters that would take issue with them) are probably why Tressym are not as common as "normal" cats. Typical cats are superior predators, superior survivors, for their size. With the ability to fly, even if smaller and lighter, they would spread through the entire world like a bad pop music song and almost purge the planet of problem-level stirges, fantasy level huge (not giant) bugs, webbirds, measels, young giant bugs, most avians, flying snakes, and many pollinating bugs (as a short list). They would be an ecological disaster... maybe not relative to their being smarter than the average cat.
@Battleguild4 жыл бұрын
Tressym would seem to be a popular pick for mages who come from a noble lineage. An extremely versatile messenger, loyal companion, and most importantly, a poison detector. Perfect for a noble serving as an envoy to another nation or an unreceptive town.
@That80sGuy19722 жыл бұрын
Well, there is an abomination thing of a winged cat that leaves some who might be seen as bad for that... but that is a lesser and lesser issue post TSR AD&D since the fun fantasy racism/xenophobia is gone where goblins and orcs can now walk into major cities, even human ones, with those of demonic/diabolic blood in obviously seen physical traits are not seen as bad at all, and the fun non-problematic rivalry between Dwarves and Elves is now obsolete. Being a Drow is now a non-issue, the lower-planar hybrids, constructs, other hybrids, and freaks are the new norm. So, by making everyone special, by making everyone accepted, nobody is anything other than just another anyone. Tressym would be a superior pick for anything by anybody, given the fact that they can breed with cats and do so. The noble's treatment of Tressym, that would be the issue based upon how they see them.

Strictly speaking, in prior editions, Familiars were not summoned spirits, but normal animals granted magical enhancements by the bond with their summoner, for instance, per the 3.5 SRD: "A familiar is a normal animal that gains new powers and becomes a magical beast when summoned to service by a sorcerer or wizard. " I am fairly certain all editions prior to 3.5 also treated familiars like this, and thus there's a good chance that any canon Wizards with Tressim familiars were written with this concept in mind rather than 5th edition's ridiculous new "familiar"...
@psyberklown34344 жыл бұрын

@That80sGuy19722 жыл бұрын
A domestic breed cat, eons bred cat that lived with humans symbiotically, living outside is a micro-ecological disaster. It's an apex super-predator for its size. The two biggest things stopping it from being a plague level pest are bigger animals that can fight it and the fact that it cannot fly. If a cat can fly, it not only has nothing to fear from birds of prey that can kill them quite easy, those very birds of prey are now something they can hunt and kill easily. That spills over to all other animals (except humans, mostly) that can easily hunt and kill them. Domestic breed cats are far better at catching and killing their prey than all other cats. "But they’re just cats with wings... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯" True. Not a big deal... in a fantasy world like Toril. In our world, they would become problematic and cause the Panic Brigade of every world government to cull all the world's cats... and I would be one of those people in prison for trying to stop that.
@CidGaius4 жыл бұрын

From what I have been able to find about variant familiars, RAI is that a) they are intended for NPCs, not PCS, and b) they are NOT summoned with Find Familiar, but instead are an actual member of that species who has agreed to work with the magic user. Making them available via find familiar invalidates warlock class features as then just any old magic user can have an imp or whatever as a magical familiar with the ability to be resummoned on death, stuffed in a pocket dimension at will, etc.

There is a theory that a bumblebee flies not by flapping it's wings. They flap to create the buzz sound. The theory says that the vibration actually syncs with the earth's electromagnetic field, and somehow interacts with their chitin, and that levitates them. I don't know all the details, but it was interesting. Also, fun fact, artic foxes use the earth's EM field to hunt. That's how they track rodents under 6-10 feet of snow. Anyway, great video. These are awesome. Lol my poor brain is coming up ideas to use this creature. A "valley girl" druid girl comes to mind. Formidable build. But comes off a aloof or a goof as a personality. Lol someone really not to take seriously until it's too late. The perfect hunter. Lmao

11:35 possibly the specific by law has something to do with hunting sentient creatures particularly non evil non malicious sentient creatures.

I'm our current campaign the wizard has a tressym named Tasha, (or maybe Tasha has a wizard named Yue) and as the DM she is fun to play with. Maybe my favorite bit is everytime Tasha helps she then psionicly (because I decided it would be more fun if the wizards who first made them gave them telepathy) screams, "FOOD! WET FOOD!" And she will keep reminding the party that she deserves wet food for what she did.
