So it's basically Leonardo Da Vinci was wrong about 1 to 1 reach being optimal. For NBA and dunking it is 1 to 1.1 height to length that is ideal!

Shorter is the optimal height for dunking because the shorter you are, the more impressive it is, both from a crowd and jumper perspective. It's hard to get hyped about anyone over 6 ft dunking after you see a 5'5 guy dunking.

If you've been around the game long enough, and actually seen players on the court, you'd know that most of them are not their listed heights. They'll be anywhere from an inch to 3 inches shorter. The shorter the person the better it looks to me personally. Watching 5'7" Spud Webb to his thing back in the day was amazing. Anyone 6' or under the flight threw the air just looks so much better to me than say people taller than 6' to see how high a person 5'5" is off the ground compared to someone 6'5" or taller just looks more spectacular to me. Im by no means saying they are better dunkers or anything else, its just the higher they have to jump to dunk is more spectacular to watch than someone who barely has to get off the ground in my personally opinion. 6’5 simply is the best, if you can’t dunk at 6’5 and you’re at least not over weight you need to stop what you’re doing and start hitting the gym. 6’4 is that height when it might be slightly difficult but you will be able to dunk at some point if you practice. 6’2+ is a simple and nice height, if you stay in shape and jump regularly, it will take some practice but you’ll be fine. I’m 6’2-6’3, I’m only 17 but when I was 16 I could dunk(like them dunks you get after you get out the rim grazers phase) now I gained 20 extra pounds and can only rim grazer here and there. Trying to lose the weight and drop down to like 175-180 and I’m sure I’ll be able to dunk with ease
