I made a fair living, cutting doughnuts.. Started in 1973 and baked for 19 years, collectively.. Even called out retirement, a few times.. I was happy.. I loved the faces in the kids and adults alike.. Nothing was more rewarding than to offer a hot fresh honey dip, to a child, on Saturday morning.. Good Lord, I do miss those days..!

I grew up mainly in the NE of the USA and Dunkin Donuts was a hit with us and an extra treat! I remember one time they were giving out Chuck Conners (Rifleman) pictures and mama sure did visit Dunkin Donuts quite a bit to ensure each of us kids had one. Oh, we loved when mama surprised us and told us we were headed there (this was in the late 60s - 70s). When daddy got out of the service, we moved to his home town in SE TN where (at the time) there were no Dunkin Donuts. So, I did not get any for years. When I went in the service in the late 70s, after my training (after boot camp), I went to visit my sister in FL. I was driving along a busy thoroughfare when the corner of my eye caught . . . DUNKIN DONUTS! Dang it all - I did a U-Turn right there! (I made sure it was safe) and headed right to it! I was a happy girl!

We were told that this is a central baking and frying location for D.D. in the area. Huge fryers were setup, like 30 feet long. Not a lot of places in Seattle are open 24 hours and the city shuts down tightly after 7:30 p.m. with mostly just the supermarkets open until 11:00 p.m. if you're not into bars or movie theaters. Even then bars only stay open until 2:00 a.m. the only places to eat are mostly Denny's or IHOP or Sheri's Cafe and pie which are most of the time 24 hours. Most of the restaurants are around here were designed around daytime tourists and business people going to work an eating out for lunch or people on their way to work picking up pastries and coffee/tea.

I go to Dunkin Donuts when I'm out of coffee or need a midday boost when I'm on the road but I miss the local mom-and-pop bakery. I have fond memories of getting my morning éclair when I was a paperboy in exchange for a daily newspaper. The baker was the only one beside me working in the area at 5 A.M. and it was a great treat to enjoy as I made my way to the first house on my route. I'm sure locally owned bakeries still exist but there are none near me. I will give Dunkin the nod over Starbucks which I have never liked but that's me.

Yes, if I still lived where, I grew -up well, the bakery is still up and running but, they say it’s still good but, nothing like in my younger days and not ran by the same people. They used to sell these cinnamon raisin rolls with maple flavored icing, those were my favorite. My dad would always go down early Saturday morning to get what everyone of us wanted. Well, I never had to say anything, my dad know what I wanted and, then, eventually they quit making them, it’s hard to find something you want when your not big on donuts and rolls to begin with.

Yep and, a lot less of a variety and, they only make them a few times a day now, it used to be if you walked in and they were out of something, they would make you anything you wanted right on the spot, they won’t do that today. Walk in there today and ask them if they have any dunkers or clunkers, those young workers will look at you like your crazy. Some of these older people working in there they think they know what your talking about but, the to have no idea. They are cake donuts made to put in coffee. I don’t drink coffee but, still those were the 2 of me and my mom’s favorite and, we always got a dozen each once a wk.

@@andyrob3259 You might be right. I don't get out much, other than to work. I'm 50 and too old to hit the town chasing tail. 😀 I don't go to Dunkin' to get it, I buy the bags of coffee grounds and brew it at home. But I do know it's way better than Starbucks. (PS: Starbucks brews their coffee by letting an existing pot burn down to the stuff stuck in the bottom of the carafe.....then they brew THAT. True story. 😂😂😂)

Dunkin' Donuts was weird for years in the UK, they never had stores, just solely operated out of food trucks at markets/flea markets Etc. but then disapeared. They came back a few years ago after the huge success Krispy Kreme had when they came to the UK, but aside from one store in London (Baker Street (Can't imagine why they chose there :D)) All their stores are up North.

Larry- Dunkin Donuts was bought by a hedge fund in 2005 and the deep pockets of the hedge fund enabled them to open up Dunkin Donut stores in Europe and even Asia. Unfortunately the quality of their donuts has plummeted compared to the 1990's when each store made their donuts on the premises twice every day and they sold over 50 varieties. The donuts are very small now and have a slightly burnt taste the last time I bought some over a year ago. My father said that means that the factory where they are made is not changing the cooking oil often enough.

1963 store design in the midwest was iconic. The winters were hard and the donuts were fresh and tender with lots of flavors. The windows were always steamy and policemen were welcomed with a cup of coffee each night to stay warm. Sunday mornings you learned to ride your bike with a dozen donuts. Lots of memories.

When we lived in Maryland, every Friday night in the summer, the neighbors would get together for some steamed crabs, then after, someone would run to Dunkin Donuts for some strawberry short cake donuts. The best! Today we have a DD down the street from us, and have been there once. The donuts were half cooked and stale. So no more!

I remember,a Dunkin Donuts 🍩 😋, TV commercial from back in the day. There was a Baker, waking up early every morning 🌄. And, the Baker would say Time to make the Donuts 🍩. The old Dunkin Donuts, that was located on Gratiot and East Outer Drive in Detroit, Michigan is a Coney Island. The Dunkin Donuts located on Harper and 9 Mile Road in St.ClairShores, Michigan is a Independent Bakery and Restaurant.

I had been a full supporter of Dunkin' for many years. I love the expansion they've been doing recently, but I long for the days of going to a Dunkin' to see donuts being made and sitting at the counter with a hot cup of coffee and a fresh and warm donut to get my day started. It's very different nowadays, but I still love Dunkin', and always will.

I was born in 1991 and grew up in New York and Georgia, so Dunkin' has always been very present in my life. Imagine my surprise when, on a trip to Seattle last year I open my Dunkin' app to find that there are no locations within 50 miles! It completely makes sense in an area so dominated by its native son, Starbucks, but it was still very surprising to me.

As a kid my Mom used to take me to Dunkin' Donuts all the time. They eventually closed the stores here but I never forgot them. Then a few years ago they opened new stores here. One right next door to the old one Mom took me to. I was able to take her there a couple of times before she passed away. While it wasn't quite the same it was still nice.

Ahhh. . .my memory of Dunkin Donuts: I grew up in southern Indiana, but went to college in northern Indiana at Anderson College (now Anderson University). As AC students, we spent many evenings at Dunkin Donuts. Many of us guys that lived on 4th floor of Dunn Hall would visit Maury (the donut maker) during his evening shift. Shhhh, don’t tell anybody, but Maury would even let us back in the kitchen area to show us how he made the donuts and to grab a piping hot donut dripping with glaze!!! I got to be so close to Maury that he attended my wedding the August after I a graduated from AC in 1983. Every time I pass a Dunkin Donuts, I can’t help but think of Maury and my evenings at Dunkin Donuts in Anderson, IN in the early 1980s!!!

Dunkin’ has always been my favorite! The only one I really always loved was a glazed donut. Nothing fancy, just a nice fluffy donut with glaze on it. If they were out of the round ones the 6:34 long twisted ones were fine. And if I got there wayyy too late then a sugar donut. I hated when they started fanning out locations so there was nothing nearby. The closest one to me is so far out of my way and I don’t even go on that side of town. No reason. Dr. appts., grocery store, whatever…are a whole lot closer. On the upside my cardiologist would have a fit if I even sniffed a donut. My father in law would go out in the morning and get donuts and when I got done night shift I would go over for breakfast. A glazed donut would be waiting!! Good memories! Thanks RR.
