When I was in college, I would go to a Dunkin’s in the mall I worked in quite often. One year, the employees were wearing shirts that said, “Friends don’t let friends drink Starbucks.” Considering the proud provinciality we have here in New England, those shirts were a hit. One thing that may or may not still be true is that there’s a bit of a perceived class divide between Dunkin and Starbucks. Starbucks is for the upper class west coast hippies, while Dunkin is for the working class in and around Boston (which isn’t true anymore because Boston is pretty cosmopolitan these days).

If you're not from Boston or New England, I don't think you understand how deep Dunks runs through our veins and through our cities. You will find 4 Dunks on the same street directly across from each other or two buildings away from the other that all make good enough money each to be non-competitive. You'll find 10 of them before you find a hospital, and we have dozens of those too. It's a common thing to get a hot in the morning and double back in the afternoon for an iced, no matter how hot or cold the weather is (and it's New England, soo). Also, one thing: only chain smokers call it Dunkies

We got Dunkin' Donuts in Sweden a few years back, and then it went out of business again after a couple of years. I ate there once, before they closed down. It was sickly sweet. You know how ordinary jam is sweet, but still tastes good and you can usually taste the berry it's made with. Dunkin' Donut filling is just like colored sugar paste with a hint of berry flavor. I bought three different donuts, to try a variety. But damn. I couldn't even finish one of them.

Growing up in the San Jose CA suburbs it was a Winchell's Donuts town until one Dunkin Donuts came along! The regular kinds of donuts were pretty much the same thing, but what I loved were the varieties of jelly filled Dunkin offered in addition to the wonderful raspberry ones at Winchell's! I looked it up and now there are only about three of them down there including the original location on Winchester Blvd and one near SFO, so no boom on their expansion! Unfortunately Winchell's is long gone!

We still have Winchell's here in Las Vegas. Stress a strong business. I'll always love and be partial to Winchell's. What Dunkin has/or had, they likely don't anymore, that I loved was the Creullers. The yeasty tall donut, with chocolate frosting, strawberry, maple and cherry frosting too. When you but into them the swirls of the donut are mostly empty, except for the delicious moist parts you just pull off and savor. I love those! I never see them though anymore, when I do go for a cup of coffee. The only other place I've found then were at Vons, but not for awhile now. I'll stick with Winchell's though, they give me structure, consistency, and yummy donuts! Best best claws ever too.

But I believe they SHOULD start baking the donuts fresh in store again, for higher quality and better tastes. A Weird History Food video on Long John Silver's Seafood Shoppes would be amazing! I really wish the chain was doing better both performance and quality-wise, because I love the story of Treasure Island, and I feel like the restaurant chain should have kept Treasure Island theming.

So did anyone notice something odd about the Dunkin' Donuts current location map for the lower 48? The Pacific northwest, including Idaho, has no locations to get any of the donuts. It's not as if was don't like donuts, but as far as that type of baked good goes, Dunkin' bought up all the local chains, the left the location when Starbucks decided to expand beyond Pike Place Market. and as for the only a third percentage in terms of Seattlites running on Starbucks, well that's because the other 66% goes to the local coffee roaster of their choice. It isn't all just craft beer in terms of local watering holes up here.

Dunkin' Donuts for all practical purposes really no longer exists. I will tell you why. I was a kid of the 1970's . I spent every other weekend with my divorced dad .Every time we would go to Ducan and get a dozen or more donuts. There was a whole BIG wall of donuts behind the counter. At least 40 donut varietes. They made their donuts fresh in house every day. These were specialty donuts. I remember my favorite was called a Dutch Crumble. All was good till about 20 years ago ( just as guess ). My theory: The Duncan downfall all began with coffee. My guess is Duncan execs saw more profit in coffee over donuts. They began by making less and less donut varieties. I went in one last month . There donuts were in a small cabinet. Only like 9 donut types. I tied 2 . they were totally generic. I can get betterand fresher donuts at Kroger next door. They are now a coffee shop that sells donuts on the side. Did no one notice on the new stores they no longer even have the word donut? It is really a shame. I suggest you look up old pics from the 70's to 90's of Duncan Donuts and all the wonderful varieties of donuts they had. Maybe someone will do a video on that.

The donut quality really crashed when they stopped making them fresh, to the point where I now prefer Krispy Kreme for donuts. I'm surprised there was no mention of the Dunkin' donut with the handle*, it was sad when they cancelled that; they claimed it was too expensive to make because of the shape. At one time they discarded donuts after a certain amount of hours so they were always fresh, now they still sell them. But the coffee is still way better than Starbucks! *for those who never saw one, it was a plain donut shaped like the letter Q, you could dunk all of it without sticking your fingers in the coffee.

👏 I think Dunkin’ Donuts did a really good job in succeeding throughout the years and getting more customers. Plus they had great marketing and a really good product. That’s why people keep coming back. I see a lot of stories about food companies and eventually you see that they are going down in business, but Dunkin’ Donuts is doing pretty good. I’m actually going to stop going to Starbucks (not that I go that often) and try out Dunkin’ Donuts coffee. I wonder if I tell them what I usually get at Starbucks that they might be able to make the same thing. Probably for less money.

My go to drink is a hot coffee with French vanilla swirl and one extra cream and sugar. I go between their vanilla frosted or blueberry glazed donut. I want dunking now!

The only area in the continental US where Dunkin does not have a presence when it comes to locations is the Pacific Northwest (though you can buy their iced coffee & beans in grocery stores). The closest Dunkin location to the Pacific Northwest is in Sacramento. As someone who lives in the PNW, I think they would do well if they expanded here especially since they have better coffee than Starbucks. Since we are on the topic of coffee, you should do an episode on the origins of Tim Hortons which is Canada's most popular coffee chain & has far more locations there than Starbucks does.

Growing up in Delaware, we hit Dunkin’ Donuts almost every other day. I still love Dunkin. And if anyone has a problem with Boston cream, donuts, we need to talk. they are the best as well as Bavarian cream. Seeing how the stores are compared to the way they were in the 70s and 80s in the big change. No big huge rose and racks of donuts filling the wall. Fred was my favorite commercial. I always loved and still quote “time to make the donuts” when getting ready for work. Lol. Starbucks is OK.

Not understanding the mocking tone used when quoting Letitia James. That sort of choice makes sense under different contexts but this AG worked hard to advocate for the rights of customers when Dunkin’ withheld vital information.

We had Amy Joy for fresh doughnuts when I was a kid. What a delight it was to hear *those* five words, "Let's go to Amy Joy," knowing a warm treat was in your future.

When they were Dunkin Donuts and just sold ☕️ and 🍩 times were good... The coffee was great they made fresh donuts in house every day... now they have a ridiculously large menu of food and drinks and it's all terrible... the coffee is disappointing and the donuts are stale because they're a day old by the time they reach the shops... disgrace 😠😔

I live in Connecticut (CT), and let me tell you Dunkin is serious business over here. I absolutely love Dunkin and I feel like a kid back in the 90's going to McDonald's every time I go to Dunkin for a coffee, which is nearly every day. The term "Dunkin run" is typical slang here in CT being so close to Mass, a widely understood euphonism for work break-coffee runs. Heck, if you look at my avatar thumbnail image, I'm actually holding a Dunkin cup! 🤣Our capitol city, Hartford CT, actually has our baseball stadium named after Dunkin -- Dunkin' Park! Much like in MA, here in CT, Dunkin is part of our cultural identity.

The Dunkin' in my small town in the South always has a line of cars for the drive thru. Sometimes even out onto the street. It's weird. I mean, Dunkin' is good, but not that good.
