Proxies FTW! One thing I do that others might find helpful is create proxies with a squareish aspect ration (like the 1024 one) Once you're working in a 16:9 timeline (1920 * 1080) for example, the proxy footage (once you click the proxy button) will have black bars on the left and the right. Those black bars are a great reminder that proxies are actually on and more so a huge reminder to turn them off when needs be ;)

Note that when you are using proxies, the playback quality(full/1/4 1/2) only affects the quality of present frame, when you browse through timeline with your LMB pushed. When stop and disable LMB, the original proxy frame is enabled at full resolution.
@dunnadidit4 жыл бұрын
There is a setting you can switch for that as well, I forget exactly what it’s called but it’s something along the lines of paused resolution or something and it also applies to scrubbing through. This is the same whether you’re using proxies or not.

Looking at the video with great interest as it seems to solve my problems editing 5,7K 360-degrees videos - however - I don't have all the presets (Apple ProRes) available for my proxy files... perhaps you could make a video or explain how I get those too ?
@dunnadidit4 жыл бұрын
Hmm I’m not sure exactly how you would go about that for 360 videos and I didn’t have to do anything to get them, they were just there with the software so I’m not sure why yours would be missing. You might have to do some googling!
@RV7FlyPer4 жыл бұрын
@@dunnadidit I found them when I made my own custom ingest/export. However - for 360 video - the format of the proxy needs to be different - clearly a 720/1280 is not working - as the "sphere" of video is not easy to work with.
@killerbeemarketing4 жыл бұрын
I’m thinking about switching from Final Cut to Premiere and I heard about Proxies. I have a couple questions you may be able to help me answer. First, if I create the proxy files, like you show, can I send those proxy files to an editor to edit? Once they’re done can I reconnect those proxy files to my 4K clips and the edits be carried over? Second, after the editing is done on the proxy files is it easy to export the finished 4K video? My goal is to record the videos myself, and hire a video editor to do most of the editing process. We’ll have to share these files on Dropbox so proxy files could make that a lot easier. But since I’m new to this, I don’t know if this will work. Thank you for any advice you can share. 😁

In the mean time I work with 3 SSD, 1 internal for OS & software, 1 external for Project & Source Media and 1 external for Media Cache & Scratch; In your opinion do I have to save the proxy files in the SSD dedicated to the Project & Source ? or better in the SSD for Media Cache & Scratch or in the OS SSD? I followed this to the letter and it's the perfect guide! I noticed that creating my own 720p proxy ingest preset made the creation of the proxy a lot faster than using one of the built-in presets, that also don't have the "PROXY" effect overlay. Cheers Dunna! EDIT: I thought it was too good to be true... now it's cutting out huge chunks of audio on the proxy version in Premiere - making editing it impossible since editing when there's talking is all part of my editing. Back to just struggling along with the original file, sigh. This cutting of audio happens when I export too but I always export a WAV and drag it back into Premiere, that fixes it... I can't do that with the proxy version since exporting exports the original file. Plergh!

Thanks for the video! Working with RAW footage and my Macbook Pro was giving me a hard time. A note for 2021 Media Encoder: When you create the Ingest Preset in Media Encoder, it doesn't autofill the destination (under Transcode To). When you add a specific location, for some reason ME overrides the location you enter, and sends it to /Users/username/Documents/Adobe/Adobe Media Encoder/15.0/Presets. This is the file you need to look in when you go back to Premiere Pro and Create Proxies > Add Ingest Preset. This threw me off a bit because I couldn't find my new ingest preset in the folder I thought I had saved it in, and had too many results pop up when searching "720" when adding an ingest preset in Premier. Hopefully this helps someone in a similar situation more easily find where ME saved the ingest preset.
