Beth probably just wanted to try something different, but I cannot get my head around why any local would bother going to McDonalds just to have rice with curry sauce. That's something you can get just about anywhere on the island. You go to Mcds to eat chips not rice.

Yes, she did! We don't get that in the U.K., so we wanted to try it out. But I agree with you, the rice in local restaurants and street food is soooo much better than the rice at McDonald's!!

I almost always get Rice whenever I hit up Mcdonalds. The Gravy they have with the rice is not something you can find anywhere else in LK. While you do have a point on going to a international food chain to eat local food. The way Mcdonalds prepares their rice is not a traditional way of making it.

Local here def cuz some local want to show off lol. I barely eat from any MCDonalds or KFC. Local resturant gives much better portion of rice and curry with other stuff in it

But the mcdonalds rice is actually not the traditional curry and rice we can get anywhere. So no this is not something we can find anywhere on the island. Honestly not a single other place has rice that tastes like the mcdonalds rice. It has a unique taste that you can only find there. So a lot of locals do go there just for the rice.

For me personally don't welcome people like that to SL.. I think you got some point. Maybe our customer care is bit lower. Maybe the rice item is not that common for that outlet. That's why you got your burger in no time and the rice with a delay. The same happened to me in the Czech Republic when I ordered a vegetable wraps which was not common. I think wherever you are when you not order a common meal you have to wait a bit. Unless they are maintaining the same level of quality. ❤

So out west fast food like this is cheap and gross. In countries like Sri Lanka, the quality is better as the prices are still relatively high, so the service (including general cleanliness of the venue) and quality of food is actually better. It’s called PPP purchasing power parity if that sounds surprising since it was just £8. So the people who actually visit these venues in countries like Sri Lanka are not the lower end of the socioeconomic spectrum. Not to say that’s the case out west, everyone visits at least every now and then but we all know the quality and service you get is what you pay for. The parallel in Sri Lanka would be the road side eateries you get, which are way cheaper and quality alike, though they can be just as tasty as a McDonald’s after a night out in London! 😉

I suggest you to try SFC (Southern Fried Chicken). You can enjoy fried chicken and burgers too. Totally different flavour compearing with international fast food chains. There are only 2 or 3 outlets around colombo.
