I really appreciate the disclaimer that establishes your relationship with Precog and bias! It honestly pisses me off when reviewers don't bother doing that. While I am very interested in the Mirai's sound, I really dislike the shell design, which look like jade earrings making them feel very gaudy/old fashion to me. Also I feel that the solid teal shell doesn't really go with the green faceplate, if it were translucent it might have been at least more interesting. A very petty reason for not liking an IEM, but for me, my kilobuck IEMs gotta look good in my collection.

I was kinda hoping you'd mention one of your fave experiences via the Supernova. I appreciate it's much cheaper - but it punches above its weight from how you rate it. You really like the tonal balance and natural nature of the freq-response on the Supernova, so my guess is - you'd still take it over the Mirai Mark. Gr8 vid as ever.

Next to you and Resolve, Precog is my favourite IEM reviewer and Dunu is my favourite brand. I really haven’t considered the Mirai further because Precog himself didn’t seem to be very enthusiastic about it. Having seen your review, I will give it some further consideration. 👍🏻

Still, he should not be shy to say he is pleased with the collab’s outcome. That would probably have been enough for me to pull the trigger.

FR from 2K onwards measures remarkably close to the original SA6 when normalized to ~1K. Different price bracket, but how would you say it compares to the Supernova?

Thanks Mark for the kilo buck review 😊. The shape thing is interesting because of the IEMs with this semi-custom wing design, the SA6 MkII actually cause me discomfort, this design usually works for me.

The Mirai’s sound didn’t appeal to me much on the (noisy) CanJam show floor, but I’d be interested to hear it in a quiet room. Even though lean lower mids aren’t my favorite, would make for an interesting comparison against other IEMs.

Hello Mark, Mirai definitely on my list, another opinion is that it is like "omakase sushi at it's finest...to combine a few very high quality ingredients into a bite size piece of heaven"❗️☀️😆 Talking of piece of heaven I just received Dita Project-M $325 neutral unique set and I immediately thought of you, I feel you would love to have it in your collection! TBH the tuning is not so different from the original SA6. I don't know if the extra cost worth the tuning difference and the techinical improvement.

The Mirai is my favourite iem, I own. The cable it comes with is the duw02s SPC cable, but with a unique off-white/cream coating. The Duw02s came with the Vulcan, I believe, but can be purchased separately. I also own the HSE, and find the Mirai had more note weight and mid bass than the HSE, which can sound drier. Ps. It was me who sent you images of my Mirai cable on your disc.

Dude. This is a $1K set. If it is an unfinished experiment, why was it released and why is it priced in the TOTL range? I’m having a tough time getting my head around an iem that is both “incisive” and “relaxed” at the same time. It just sounds like it lacks balance and polish. Two things I would absolutely expect at this price range.

1k is nowhere near TOTL range, it's mostly entry level for boutique/luxury audio.

And based on Mark's review, it doesn't seem like it is. That is all I am saying. And since I haven't tried it, and likely won't, I have to rely on other people's impressions.

@@haomingli6175 Okay, now I understand the dichotomy a little better. Thank you for adding some clarification. I still don't know though. It would have to be "special" for me to pull the trigger at that price. And maybe it is. Maybe it is for some people. It is hard to say based off of one review, no matter how thorough and well presented that review is. I guess for me I would have to be somehow assured that it is in that final 5% of SQ and performance. Mark did not convince me that it is. And that certainly proves one thing. Even if he is admittedly biased from his friendship with Precogvision, that did not completely remove his ability to be critical. And that is tough. For now the Mirai is a pass for me. Maybe if I ever have a few grand to throw around at a few different kilobuck sets, I might give it a go... But if I had to pick one, this would not be it.

The cable for my Dunu EST112 smells really bad. I literally cannot use it. I've had the same problem with 3 or 4 aftermarket cables from Amazon and AliExpress, plus a few others that are usable, but I wouldn't want to sniff them.

This is my review of the Dunu Mirai. I per-ordered this the day it came up, and was looking forward to getting it in. $1100.00 so I thought it would be world class build and sound, When I first opened it I was not happy. The cable looks and feels like a cheap plastic toy, and the IEMs are very light and feel like they spent $5 for the shells. I am running this on a Schiit Midgard, Lokius, and Modius, not off a phone. As for the sound, it not bad, clean clear but very little in the bass. If you want to feel the hit in the lows, forget it. You can hear the drums but not feel a thing, the mids are nice and clean, so female vocals are nice. The highs are good but not great, and in no way worth the 1+k . What I truly think is that somebody is making a lot of money on a very mid level set. If they spent more then $75 building this I would be shocked. Look for something else to drop a thousand bucks on, this set at that price is a joke!

Nah, I'm 22 and many of my iems in rotation (mmr gae bolg, jomo salsa, and somewhat andromeda) have thicker midbass because I like more relaxed tuning and the added body to vocals. It mostly depends on what type of music you are listening to.

@@karolkedzierski5824 if you only have your own ear as reference, don't generalize your opinion to an objective standard and use that to trash the opinions of others. the fact that you don't like it doesn't mean something is objectively bad. in fact, if more people like it than hate it, then probably it is closer to objectively good. you might not be the only one who doesn't like it, but those who don't like it are in the minority. it does not matter if you are among the few with undamaged hearing, and therefore don't like it. if it happens to be the case that the market is full of people with damaged hearing, what is wrong with building iems that provide decent treble to such people? they are just not made for you.

That there is no correlation between listener preference and price is firmly established by Harman research. The frequency response of the Zero 2 is also closer to the Harman target. And the Zero has incredibly low distortion, while I haven’t seen measurements from the Mirai, it is most probably higher. So?

Are there plenty of iems that are over priced, absolutely true too. To say the zero 2 is better than this is just a lie though. Graphs only tell you a very small part of how things “should” sound and even then they’re not always accurate. So, no, there isn’t any research done to say the zero 2 is better than the mirai
