Love your videos - I have a 2016 Cobalt with the 300 Gen 4 - With 197 hrs. Do you recommend replacing the upper and lower seals to prevent water intrusion?

Thanks for the compliment! As for your question, I do not plan on replacing any of the drive seals unless I suspect an issue with them. They are not 'regular' maintenance items and could possibly last for the lifetime of the boat. Just monitor your drive oil level periodically to make sure the level is not changing, which would be a sign of a leak or water intrusion. And if you are overly cautious about it, buy a pressure tester and check your drive periodically to make sure the seals are healthy (just follow the procedure from the drive shop manual to make sure you do not overpressure it). I recently had my yoke seal at the top of my drive fail with under 90 hours on it. Real slow leak that I noticed by some drive oil in my bilge (came in through the bellow/gimbal bearing). Didn't make a video of that fix as I took it to the dealer for warranty repair since the boat was less than 2 years old. Still waiting to see if Volvo accepts it..... They rejected the first claim my dealer sent in as they said the only way that seal will fail is if the drive was overfilled. I then pointed my dealer to my video, which clearly shows I followed the process exactly per the manual, and even shows the fill level on the dipstick. Still waiting to see what their next response is..... Enjoy your Cobalt! They are beautiful boats.

I find your videos to be very helpful. You do a very nice job. QUESTION: Where did you get that service manual? I have been wanting one forever. Might you also know where to get one for the engine? (I have a Gen5 V6 280).

I received a hard copy when I bought the boat, but it is available as a pdf download at the link below. Enter the serial number for your engine or drive, and it will show you what documentation is available. You may have to enter your engine's serial number (versus your drive) to have the 'Operator's manual' appear. The operators manual covers both the engine and drive. Then it looks like you need to buy it, but click on the 'buy/cart' icon, and you should get the option to download. I have also since purchased the shop manual for my drive as it has more detail in it along with the process to remove the drive, change bellows, etc. Which will be future videos on my channel when I need to deal with that maintenance step. Thx for watching, and let me know if you were able to find/download it. www.volvopenta.com/en-us/service-and-support/your-engine/manuals-and-handbooks/

@@iowabuckeye After entering the proper serial #'s, I purchased the WORKSHOP manuals for both the engine and stern drive (2 separate manuals). Glad to hear your ordering the manuals went ok. I was nervous about ordering from the VP website because being overseas things do not look correct (i.e. commas vs. periods) when ordering.

Glad you found them. And considering the manual was delivered from overseas, I felt it arrived fairly quickly. I can’t recall exactly how long, but feel it was less than 2 weeks. I’ll order the engine shop manual sooner or later…..

Sir, I've been finding your videos very helpful. I have the exact same setup as you on a Chaparral. When you have a second could I trouble you for the part numbers on the manuals you ordered? TIA... Also, do you think you'll ever get around to changing out the manifolds and risers?

@@kensnyder7839 Sorry for my delayed response, but I am just now seeing your comment. The part number for my drive manual is 47713910. The engine manual is 47713542. You can confirm the part numbers by following this link and entering the serial numbers for your drive and engine. As for changing the manifolds and risers, not sure. I boat in fresh water so may never have to do that!!! I do plan to make a video of pulling the drive fall. www.volvopenta.com/en-us/service-and-support/your-engine/manuals-and-handbooks/
