I think the main thing you want to do is include your opinion as soon as possible in the reply, and immediately go into the main point of the topic in stead of spending too much time in the topic sentence. Of course I cannot know for sure what they are calling "rehearsed."

I’m not sure what kr lya g is, but if you are coming to the US or Canada as a student, my understanding is that Duolingo is ok. However, I am not an immigration agent, so I really cannot say definitively. It’s best to contact the embassy or Duolingo support to make sure.

It’s really crazy. I don’t know how you can rehearse a prompt in advance. Did you follow a specific template? I know some people have a general intro and conclusion they give. If not, try to write an appeal and say that you did not have the questions in advance. You only tried to organize your speaking. If they don’t accept it and make you do it again then I’d advise leaving out any I tri statement and just leave off any kind of “this picture describes” just stat with “there’s a boat on the river...” it’s the only thing I can think of. To be honest, I don’t really understand that response from them.

Jackson state university accepts Duolingo exam results. What is the minimum score for the Duolingo exam for the master in public health in the university of southern Mississippi and Jackson state university and any other university which are located in southern part in the USA.

Yes, it’s possible. Some people do better on the real test than the practice, but some do worse. It’s hard to guess the real score based on those short practice tests.

Hi Servet! I think you can do it by October! I wonder, how is your pronunciation? With production and conversation being the two lowest, I think this would be the speaking tasks. For those, I mean the speak aloud- so reading a sentence, the speaking version of describe a picture, and the speaking responding to a prompt. These categories can also include some of the writing tasks, but your literacy and comprehension scores are high, so I think its probably the speaking tasks. I obviously don't know how your pronunciation is, but I recommend working on that by actually recording yourself reading sentences and listening to them. Exaggerate your mouth movements when speaking English by yourself- pronunciation is really about re-training the muscles in your mouth. Practice enunciating each syllable in words. Practice reading poems in English as if you're reading them to a kid- and exaggerate the emotion. It'll help you get used to intonation in English. For the spoken prompts, really practice talking to yourself about anything. Read questions- on my Facebook page, I have a document someone sent me with writing/speaking tasks from Duolingo- you can read those and practice answering them. Practice answering IELTS questions, SAT questions, any questions. If you watch a TV show, later that night speak a summary about it to yourself. The more speaking you do the more comfortable you get. I really would focus on the speaking tasks for awhile. I do think you can get your score. You're really not too far from it!

External equipment is ok. Just make sure to keep your eyes on the screen. Their proctors watch your eye movements and if you look away from the screen that is what will disqualify you.

Probably. Most universities will transfer some of your credits. To be sure, I recommend contacting them and telling them you would like your transcripts evaluated for transfer credit. They will tell you how to submit them.

Its the camera making you nervous? It really is awkward to talk to a camera. Make videos of yourself just answering random questions. Practice looking into the camera and talking. Its weird to talk into a camera, and I still feel like its weird, but you do get used to it after you do it a few times.

First of all, everyone gets so nervous about these speaking sections because they don't give you time to think. I'm a native speaker and I thought it was difficult! Secondly, its ok to pause and hesitate. Most people do that when they speak, so I don't think you should worry too much about that. Just do your best, and if you have some "ummmm" expressions, its okay. Most of the time, the admissions office wants to accept your application. They won't be looking for a reason to reject you. They will be watching just to make sure you can speak English well enough to communicate with professors and classmates. Often, they only care about the score and many may not even watch the video- so really don't let the interview video scare you so much.

Hi. My test was not certified and I recieved this as the reason. During the interview section, it was evident that you were reading a response that had been written out. This is not permitted. Your response cannot be prepared in any way and must be candid in order to receive a valid score. Did anyone else recieve the same?

It’s adaptive so it allows up to an hour. Most tests will not take the full hour. They say that it is usually 30-45 minutes. You will have a minimum of 3 of each adaptive question type and a maximum of 7. Hope this helps!

Don't try to lose your beautiful accent! People with accents are so much more enjoyable to listen to than someone with a boring American accent 🙃 For general pronunciation, one thing that I think a lot of people don't realize is that our speech is largely related to the muscles in our mouths. If you practice speaking English by exaggerating your mouth movements (read out loud alone, I wouldn't speak to people this way hahaha) then it can train your mouth muscles. Pronunciation software usually works by having you listen to a native speaker and then copy them. It works, but you have to really pay attention to how they sound and how you sound. If you want to spend money, there is software called "Native Accent" that is actually really good, but it's expensive. For free, I think just being diligent in your practice will work if you read out loud regularly and really think about exaggerating the mouth movements and listen to yourself. As I said, don't try to lose your accent, just focus on speaking clearly! People love to hear accents!

I always advise students that if it’s a question then reword that question in the form of a statement. If it is a statement already, restate it and give your response. I like my wording as an answer to be as close to the wording in the question or prompt as possible. For example, if the questions says “Do you agree that ....” I respond “I agree that...”. If it is a prompt such as “Describe your earliest childhood memory.” I write “My earlier childhood memory is...”. The goal is to keep the wording close but make your statement into your topic sentence.

Have you taken the actual test or is this based only on the practice test? The section where you read a sentence aloud is for pronunciation. I think all elements of pronunciation would help, including intonation I just can't imagine intonation alone being responsible for being stuck in a score.

I would think that it would be ok. I know it says not to use headphones, but that is to be sure that no one is giving you answers. there is a live chat help option on their website. You could message them with that question to be certain.

It’s hard for me to predict how you will do. Many people have told me they did a little better on the practice test than on the actual test. However, a few have done better on the real one. You are right on the border. It’s possible for you to get the score you need, but it’s very close. Remember you can take this test twice within 30 days, so here is my advice... If you can afford to take it twice, take it once now to see how you do. You may get the score you need and that’s great. If you don’t- you’ll know how far off you are and you can retake it later. If you really cannot afford to take it twice, I’d wait a bit longer and keep practicing. At my university, I advise all of our international students to plan to take any test (like this one or any kind of placement test) twice and if they only need once then it’s great!

I think the best thing to do is read in English every day for an hour to try to help as much as possible with the vocabulary. This also helps with your mental stamina to focus in English for an hour. Keep doing the practice test even if it is repetitive! It is still practice! Good luck and let me know how you do!
