I understand how Proteomics deals with gene expression.. but how exactly is that different from Epigenetics and how methylation patterns (ala David Sinclair) can change gene expression. Are the terms interchangeable, or is there an important subtle difference here?

Ben I think that gene expression can be a reflection of protein expression but not always. There are lots of reasons these might not correlate even in the same tissue. I think of methylation (a form of epigenetic modification) as "upstream" (closer to the DNA side of the central dogma) and this can have effects on protein expression (as well as gene expression). I am probably WAY over simplifying it, but that is how i think about it. Thanks so much for asking the question.
