Used to see them play this at Singapore Swimming Club 1964 to 1967!! Got started myself on guitar back in 1961 and still at it!!! That rascal Hank Marvin has got a lot to answer for.!!!!

Thinking back to those fabulous times in Singapore 1964 to 1967 both the Quests and the Dukes used to play quite regularly at Singapore Swimming Club the Dukes had Fender amplifiers and used a Schaller Disc Echo on lead guitar amp. Happy Days.!!! Can't believe more than 50 years have slipped by.!!!!

Can you share more on the gear that the Quests used? Hofner guitars? how about effect and amps?

​@smollande Far as I can remember the Quests used the Fenders and that Hofner Bass as seen here..their amps were Fenders with twin speakers and again the Schaller Disk Echo on lead guitar.....don't see these echo units today but in Singapore in the 60s they were quite popular...I always thought the Quests and the Dukes all came from well off families as they all had top expensive equipment !!!...Their Fender amps were separate and sat on top of the Fender Twin cabinet with tilt back legs..!!...Swee Lee was THE music shop then ..I did one year 1961 at Singapore School of Music on guitar that school was near Orchard Road...around 1967 a Fender Stratocaster in Swee Lee was around $850 ...Dad bought me a brilliant 3 pickup Hofner Verithin red colour..$400 Christmas 1966...Did MANY gigs with that one and is a better rhythm guitar than ANY of my Fender or Gibson guitars...it's the comprehensive switching AND the Nova Sonic pickups..!!..Both the Quests and the Dukes were good well practiced professional Acts....both appeared on Singapore Television in 66 67...Boy do I miss those days... and I STILL play that Hofner...!!!!!..Best wishes from Plymouth UK..!!

I met these guys a few times in local Singapore bars such as Toby's Paradise - and they were definitely influenced by the Shadows melodic approach not the Ventures - they had a harder edge to their sound.

The Quests are not "an obscure instrumental group". They've had two distinctive lead vocalists throughout their decade-long run and coincidentally have instrumental recordings as part of their repertoire, but are basically regarded as the Beatles of Singapore. What "obscure" group would have two extensive greatest hits compilations? Stop playing ignorant just so you can show off your technique. It means very little when you trivialize a band's existence.
