You could use the autosweeper's ability to grab things through walls at a diagonal angle to get the igneous rock of shame out of the sporechid room.

Yeah its much easier to just cut the part go into the input and later cut the other part when the content go into the output part and join the network.

Setting up a sorting area where all of your shipping rails go to (probably your infinite storage area) and then send things out where they are needed makes managing rails way easier and cleaner

First of all there's chlorine inside the vacuumed portion of the Arboritum (25:51). Second of all (for more labour) if you want you could go for Biobots. Considering you already have a mini sporechid garden, you could set up a recycling system where if there's enough germs in the gas would it then be used in the Biobot builder, and the gas can then be input back into the sealed garden.

Some other tips about dupe labor: * As Echo has pointed out before, Enable Proximity is good once the size of your colony (as in physical space that the colony spans across) reaches a certain threshold. * If you're really struggling, disallowing some dupes from doing certain tasks can help. For example, if you have a dupe that's bad a research, disallow research. If you want a dupe to focus on farming/ranching, disallow supplying/operating so they don't wander off into the industrial sauna, doing a single task, then get back to grooming dreckos. (warning: don't disallow digging/building if you don't want to see a dupe get stuck, then cry in frustration as the refuse to dig a single tile to free themselves cause you've forgotten that you disallowed digging). * In a similar thought, NOT giving a dupe a skill is the same as not allowing that dupe to do that task. If you don't want a dupe to ever ranch, just don't give them the skill! (or disallow the task. It's the same end result). * Access restrictions is another one. Any door (even pneumatic doors) have access restrictions. If you really want some farming task done, but don't want every dupe in the colony to run over and constantly take care of it, restrict it so that only one or two dupes can get into that farm, saving the other dupes from being pulled there. (pretty sure this also helps with computational power a bit as the dupes that are not allowed into that area don't even consider the tasks inside? Not 100% certain about that though). Note that door restrictions don't apply to rovers/biobots. They always have permanent access. Umm, I think that's the only things I can think of that Echo didn't really mention this video? The advantages of disallowing certain dupes from doing some things is the big one I wanted to mention. In terms of sheer simulation/computation power instead of dupe labor, as Echo mentioned, heat transfer is a big one. Well, no heat transfer happens in a vacuum. So, if you liquid lock your base in and vacuum out the rest of the planet, all the mixed gas calcs, all the heat transfer calcs, they go bye bye (except for the heat transfer stuff with the liquids at the bottom. Those still happen unless you move the liquids off the bottom).

I hate when dup bring the material to build and they go to the other side of the map instead of building it. a another dup at the other side of the map get the task to build.

So first thought for duplicate labor fixing is building a pump station for all the fluids near a transit tube network input. That will help with the bog buckets as they won't have to go far to get the fluid needed, and won't have to run far after they get out of the tub into the garden/arboretum for the task.

My personal favorite method of handling rail networks in my colonies is with centralized storage with local depot setup. For instance, I will have a central storage where all non-volatile solids are sent. This storage is climate controlled (both temp and pressure), with the storage cell low enough to prevent dupe decor hit when retrieving materials. Most importantly, this central storage is surrounded by 4-6 sweepers, which themselves can be surrounded by different loaders, going out to separate hubs. One loader is for instance my industrial area, so all ores being auto-refined, all lime sources, all rare materials, etc all go out on that rail. That rail drops off into a local depot (again, linked with local climate control) that takes all of the industrial solids and separates them locally into their separate lines. Return lines from all over the colony all condense together at the central storage for sorting and processing.

BTW Klei... sprinklers. Sprays areas with the water hooked up to it. Anything that needs manual watering is done without task, at a cost of say 10-25% more water usage, without causing puddles. Could also be used as a means of cooling, by wasting the water sprayed.

While automating as much of the things as possible definitely helps with dupe labor, I think a more significant impact can be achieved if you put all your dupes in a gym and have all of them train their athletics up to 20. Even though you have transit tubes going all around the place, some of your dupes are still slow in their atmosuits when travelling the last mile.

You could get the igneous rock of shame by dropping it down 1 tile, sweeping it up with an autosweeper diagonally through the block and then rebuilding that block again.

I'm on a lower powered machine and I've found creating a tremendous number of sweep jobs at once actually contributes to the lag. Eventually it'll get better as the jobs get cleared, but every one of those jobs ends up on someone's priority list. Also at 04:25, since you're digging up the tiles anyway, you can cancel the uproots (which count as farming tasks) and save a few jobs.

01:59 you could still have the storage inside but between the checkpoint and the door if you moved all the docks over. That would also make room for putting the tube access inside; a tube crossing isn't going to leak any more heat than the door already is, but getting them into the tubes a bit sooner and not having to wait for the door would help with every trip outside.

Some recommendations: 1. You can use the mod "Drywall hides Pipes" to hide automation buildings, gas and liquid pipes, conveyor rails i.e. background buildings if you think they are ugly. 2. A central stroage managment system in this game, I am of the opinion, makes more sense because then you always have a line to "dump" the outputs of your farms, industrial brick, ranches etc. and a central place to access recourses from. This should cut down on rail count. 3. Do take the time to assign priorities. While the quality of the work they do often don't change, the speed at which they do it does. It saves a lot of time. Also pairing jobs that go well together like construction&digging and ranching&farming cuts down on travel time

Another thing you can do is make a 'Housekeeping' dupe, who has all jobs blocked except tidy, delivery, and life support. Then change their schedule so their work schedule overlaps the builders' down and sleeping times. That way, builders can simply jump straight to building without stopping to grab materials (for larger builds anyway) and while they work the housekeeper grabs loose items (helping with clean up AND performance). This logic also applies to cooks or other stations that require uploading. The idea is _concurrency._ A job's sub-goals are divided up and done in parallel.

At 25:50 sweepers don't care about which side of the farm tile they deliver to, so you could have sweepers and receptacles for sand in the balm lily room (and export the balm lilies and seeds too).

Mmm pasta. XD I tend to (well, try to) keep at least a few of my rails join up early where I can, so I can use one line and one filter, and then send the rest to a central dumping zone for neater access. My ranches get one for meat, eggshells, and produced product, and then a filter sends the meat to the kitchen and the rest off. It's not perfect, but it can be nice when dealing with tight spaces. I also have done half-delivery setups in places where I can't quiiite cover the whole area. It's not perfect, but it does still cut down a lot on dupe labour. (At least until you go nuts and tear it apart so it works better lol.)

My instant thought was to just have the infinite storage on the other side of the suits. So the dupes will dump their mats without taking their suits off, while the storage is still inside.

Echo,i know you love your bridge spaggette but to reduce it you can combine the exit ,like taking the output of a each adjucent farms and dropping them at a point ,then making multiple conyeyer input lines from there .this may look pretty( You have already applied this in your ranches to carry eggs etc from breeder ranches to outside ).

25:14 You can use manipulator to reach this debris - just disassemble one corner tile 😉 25:43 you can install all shipping equipment in Balm Lily room - they are only 2 tile high. But you cant do automatic seeds collection for Dasha and Waterweed due to design 🤔

Always great to see you go through some of the "basics" like dupe labor and prioritization. It's always something players need to be aware of no matter how experienced they are. Edit: I think improved carry 2 is a must for every dupe.

The railing ideology is to prevent corners to allow easy bridging and aesthetic oversight. 8:44 hurts so much I've used to seperate coal and egg rails while putting them right next to eachother and constantly adding a bridge to the egg one at every intersection with things like sand or rock delivery. 2 tile gap in between everything at least a good middle ground to just bridge over and forget about.

I usually just have a main line that deposits everything to infinite storage from all ranches/farms/builds. Then multiple loaders surrounding the storage with a sweeper that sends things off to things like kitchen, farms, feeders. Polluted dirt line, phosphorous line, igneous rock line, etc. Shipping gloriousness Also for all their skills, once I assign the job skill I want each dupe to have, every single one of my dupes will have exosuit training, improved carry 2, and plumbing. Gotta get all that athletics and strength for carrying tasks.

Idea for making dupes never do priority 1: set on priority 2 a cooling loop somewhere with ice makers, ice fans, pitcher pumps, and manual generators on their own grid. Strictly optional labor that doesn't consume or produce a material. I believe the weird tempshift properties of the fan would be useful for a tank of some liquid through a wall and I think that could supplement an aquatuner to save power.

If I'm not mistaking, I think high levels of radiation would kill off the zombie spore germs, but I don't know what the living plants threshold is based on illumination and radiation. However, maybe having an excessive farm of shine bugs near it to produce a bunch of light and radiation would help to produce a bunch of rad bolts for rad bolt generation, and the radiation that they would emit including a couple of Wheeze Worts might stifle and kill off a good amount of the bulk of those zombie spores without killing the host plants. As another layer of protection, having a Puff farm with a chlorine room next to it would help to kill of any possible germs that the dupes might encounter that the radiation of the shine bugs didn't...

For the seeds in the Arboretum that you don't want to or cannot set up auto sweepers, would it be logical to have a dispenser and sweeper set up in the vacuumed area? That way, the dupes only have to go in and out of the liquid lock to move seeds instead of all the way out somewhere else. It would also save on rails and allow you to re-add the decore.

I started playing ONI on casual mode and because of the decreased food requirements I actually found stress much more difficult at the late game because my dupes weren't eating every day to get the morale boost. So even though it was easier to keep them alive and stress free, having enough dupes with enough skills with enough morale for those skills was actually more difficult. Also I get constant bugs in my game with what I can only assume are accumulating math errors, things like standard lava droppers/solidifiers for power not working (constantly dropping too much into the mesh tiles and then not falling out as debris), or just recently, abyssalite conducting temperature, flashing my water reservoir to steam, and then BREAKING a long 15x2 tile abyssalite floor as a result of the pressure increase, which further dropped the water into the lava biome and started solidifying it, flashing to steam, and generally ruining everything. Thankfully I noticed this not long after it happened and only lost about 2 cycles worth of progress, but abyssalite shouldn't conduct temperature at all that I'm aware of, and it definitely shouldn't be able to break that easily.

5:14 please correct me if I'm wrong, but if you set the critter feeder at a lower priority than the storage bin, then the auto sweeper won't load it from said bin

Do you think the base could stand to have more plastic/metal tiles and ladders around? It's a small Dupe Labor Efficiency (DLE) increase but it should help with any tasks they end up having to do. The only issue I can see there is that there isn't many places you can use Plastic safely that isn't already covered by the transit tubes, and metal tiles are not only costly, but thermally conductive, so it can't be used in farms, ranches, etc.

Of 29 dups, you had 1 dup with exosuit training, f*ck, after my first 9 dup, and start to use exosuits, that become a priority for me.

Echo, instead of running all those rails all over the place gathering from one spot to deposit in another, why not make a centralized infinite storage location, for everything not hand carried that is, then have a bunch of sweepers feeding a bunch more loaders to take the individualized items to their specific locations. That way you can cut down on a lot of rail crafting. Sure, it's a bit of an eyesore but as long as it's out of the way and not somewhere where dupes travel to a lot that shouldn't matter. I have 4 different junk lines, one for each quadrant of the map, funneling trash into a centralized pit and several loaders taking meat/veg from the pit to the kitchens, coal to my generators (I'm nowhere near confident enough to do a power block like you.), and metal to the processers. Yes, the temp can be an issue, but you can set that particular line to go through a cooling pond to reduce the temp of metal etc. Plus, your rail lines end up looking like a kinda crazy spider.

23:39 why do you distroy rails? you dont have to, you have sniping tool. Snip rail and connect it to new line in mushroom farm you can submerge conveyor recepticle in water if you remove 1 farm tile and run slime-rail through walls. if thing on rail is in wall it doesn't offgas. and then do standard sweeper run farm :)

So can someone tell me if its dumb or not- the way i do my rails is useally run all the items on a single line, and that line runs through everywhere that needs things dropped- so first all the things from the farms and ranches (food, seeds, critter secretions) are dropped at the freezer, then the same auto sweeper that loads the grill and whatnot, loads all the things that dont need to be in the freezer into a conveyor receptacle that sends everything into the industiral brick or wherever i am doing my crafting, then everthing that isnt used for crafting+ the final products of all the carfting go to other dropping stations, until finally everything goes into the infinite storage. ranches genraly only need one type of item, so in that case i do use seporated rail lines, that goes diractly from the infinite storage to the farm The adventages are that i dont need to run dozens of separated rail lines nor do i need to deal with rail filters that can only filter one item at a time, the auto sweepers and conveyor receptacles are doing all the separating for me. The disatvantage is that things are going all over the planetoid even when they dont need to. and i am also kinda limited by the 20kg/s capacuty of a single rail line, not that i ever reached that limit as far as i have noticed

I feel like you could have just, built a temp storage above your normal one, sweep everything, destroy the tile under and watch it all fall nicely into your real storage... rather than a single sweeper running for the next 100 cycles.

wouldnt giving them more skills in certain things like doctoring/farming/building etc de-optimze things? i mean you are literally filling their todo list with tasks that arent getting done. i mean i get giving skills for things you are short on as well as giving skills for athletics and carry strength because these will make work more efficient but the rest should really only be be done when you have labor to spare. or am i wrong?
