Dupixent

Dupixent treats moderate to severe atopic dermatitis, a common childhood skin rash that regularly persists into the adult years. Also known simply as eczema, the disease causes persistent itching that ultimately results in weepy, crusted, scaly and thickened skin. First line therapy includes minimizing bathing, liberal applications of moisturizer and avoiding irritants known to cause flares. Topical steroid creams of appropriate strength mostly eliminate active disease. Only when these simple measures fail are internal therapies warranted. Unfortunately this expensive drug is often offered in place of these simple, time honored methods.
Dupixent injections every other week offer the chance for many but not all affected individuals to minimize their eruption and drastically reduce the associated itch. It achieves this without causing significant adverse reactions, although it may lead to conjunctivitis in up to 1 in 6 individuals.
As an additional benefit, Dupixent appears quite effective in treating asthma - a condition often associated with atopic dermatitis. It may also have a role in treating itchy skin not apparently associated with atopic disease, eczema or rash.
An aggressive marketing campaign designed to engage both the public and medical profession appears in the face of multiple competing drugs set to enter the market in the near future. The company hopes their first to market status will continue to provide name recognition as other options materialize.
The yearly cost for the cash paying consumer is approximately $37,000 or $100 a day.

Why is the body making IL4 and IL13 to inflame the skin, should that not be the question? Oh we just block that with this medicine. I think you need to find out why the body is sending out the inflame signals, that seems like common sense to me.

various reasons.. could be allergens, could be "leaky gut" or microbiome etc. when i was 17 i developed sever eczema, went to a lot of dhermatologists who couldn't help me except give me cortisone. then i went to a homeopath and detoxed, she also sent me for food allergy tests and had me avoid all of it, including anything processed for the duration of the detox.. took about 3 months of excruciating eczema as it gets worse before it gets better, but essentially it cleared itself up and i didn't have eczema for about 3 years. i tried eating things i was allergic to and absolutely no eczema response.... however, after going back to normal for about 2 years it all came back again, and i tried detoxing and all and just hasn't worked. stress also triggers inflamation etc. either way, sometimes there is a clear way to fix the cause, but sometimes there isn't.. i've avoided all my allergens for an extended period of time, but any stress triggers a massive flair up where i have to go to the doctors.. here is the catch, i have a high profile job that requires me to handle stress. so the only option for me at this stage is treating symptoms. on the other end of the spectrum .. i did know someone that was allergic to water as well.. so sometimes things aren't so clear cut.. eczema has various reasons and causes, but at the bottom of it, it is an autoimmune response, and historically hundreds of years ago weak kids (like myself with asthma / also linked to eczema) wouldn't have survived childhood (the estimate was 46% of children did not reach their 5th birthday up until late 1800s), but with modern lifestyles and facilities a lot more do survive and there is bound to be ones with weaker immune systems or troubled genetics etc.. so for some people its as simple as cutting out allergies, others cutting out the causes of inflammation is just not possible practically

It worked like a charm on my super severe eczema. Costs me $45 a month after insurance. They did not want to fund it, but after trying all other things and showing they didn’t work was able to get it. On for a few years now and no issues except occasional itchy eyes, or puffy eye lids, but just use a little eyelid cortisol cream and that goes. I just worry about the what ifs, like the lymphoma cancer talk, some say hair loss, but god my eczema sucked balls!! Now i dont even have to use lotion after showering.

Great detailed and accurate information. Thank you very much. I have Asthma and my IgE is 1,500. I am on my 3rd week of Dupixent and I have noticed that sneezing or laughing no longer causes an attack. If something irritates my lungs and I am remove myself from the irritant my breathing goes back to normal on its own, this was never the case before, I always needed my rescue inhaler. So far so good.

Hi Doctor, my daughter suffers from eczema since she was 6 months old until now. Her health is in my mine ALL THE TIME, sad, struggling to see my daughter so so so suffer from severe itching, red, swelling, thinking etc , you name it. She started Dupixent last year and continue until now (almost a year now). I am very very worried (all times) about the side effect of this drugs. She must see her Allergist for next treatment (to receive the injection of all allergens that she allergic to). She does not return to her Allery doctor yet and says she "very very scared of these allergens will make me so itching again", her horrible nightmares for many years. WOuld you please help me, doctor. What is the side effect of long-term users of Dupixent? I appreciate your video and your answer. Thank you so much with all my heart.

It is possible that you develop antibodies against the drug, but to no apparent negative effect (as mentioned in the video). I do not know whether there are any known long term effects either (besides the ones mentioned in the additional medication informatio). Best consult a specialist though, I'm not a doc :)

Thank you doctor for this video! I feel much better about considering Dupixent. Your information seemed clear, concise, and understandable. I have just been approved for this drug by my medical insurance and for the pharma discount card. I do not like taking medications unless I have to, so this may be the time. Other treatments, allergy testing, and life style changes are doing little to help me at this point. After 56 years of hiding and suffering, I'm ready for some relief. My quality of life has been severely and negatively affected for years now. Thank you again.

If I remember correctly, sampling over an ethnically diverse population might account for deviations due to slight variations in metabolism. I think that is the main reason for this distribution of patients.

My insurance denied my dupixent prescription until my doctor proved I had tried multiple different treatments that did t work. And I’m now using the injections and I am more clear now compared to before but still need topical steroids that I feel don’t help to an extent. It worked amazingly and is now breaking out again.

Stay off steroids oral and topical try protopic and cbd oil look into tsw topical steroid withdrawal could be the steroids affecting your skin

Just wished it wasn't a self injection drug that's all. I hate needles. Hope in the future there will be an oral pill to take then maybe I'd be interested but right now my eczema seems to be getting much better. I think an oral pill would be so much easier to take, less messier & less time consuming than shots.

I'm interested in knowing how bad your eczema symptoms were before Dupixent. I started the treatment a month ago and have had 4 injections during a full blown eczema outbreak. It was so bad that I had to go on prednisone pills for a month to calm things down but its been 2 weeks since the end of my prednisone prescription and its all coming back with a vengeance even with 4 Dupixent injections. My eczema is pretty bad as I have it pretty much everywhere except on my face atm but Ive had some on it last year. But the part of my body that have caused me the worst pain and loss of workdays are the soles of my feet and my inner hands...especially the palms, in-between my index finger and thumbs and on the tips of my fingers. Both my feet and hands become red, dryer and the skin becomes thicker and then since I manipulate many things and walk many steps at work, they start to fissure. So yeah, if at least my hands and feet were healthier, I could better manage the rest of my body.

The backs of my knees and fingers would always be very itchy and after a lot of movement I would sit down and my legs would sting and my face would often have red spots, and I had this weird scale pattern on my lower legs. After 1 dupixent injection after about a week the itchiness everywhere reduced by like 90% and after a month my legs no longer sting and everywhere but my hands and feet are smooth and mostly clear. The skin on my feet still get thick, crack, and make it very painful to walk and my hands don't look a whole lot better but they hardly itch anymore. The symptoms get better the longer i'm on it so maybe because yours is worse you just have to be on it longer to see significant changes

​@Daniels656993 I just started my load dose ( double shot ) about a week ago. I'm on my 2nd cycle of pred. ( mid way through that). Your description of areas and conditions matches mine exactly . I'm still itchy. And I noticed that if I have a cocktail or two, I itch more. While I am still very early in this course of treatment... I have hope. 17 months ago I was with a different dermatologist that ( with no blood work or biopsies) diagnosed me with psoriasis. Was using clobetasol, triamcinolone, then came the biologics. Humira, cosentyx, Otezla, skyrizi, and then it was both clobetasol and triamcinolone mixed with otezla, and skyrizi all at the same time. My skin basically turned to goo. Was in the hospital, chemical burns. I was a complete mess. I'm hopeful that the new diagnosis after the biopsies are correct that it's just atopic dermatitis. I am wondering how you are doing now? Thank you for any time you can spare in a response.

It is not just about diet. It has a genetic background and an immunological basis. Of course diet will help but it is not all for us that we suffer this illness
