DupliColor Clear Gloss and Matte Paint Shop finishes

You can get it to a total gloss mirror finish if you wet sand and buff it out. It even says that on the can. Cut and polish.

yes that is true but you would still need to build it up and I think it is a good goal to be able to spray it better from the get go.

about the gloss on top of burnt orange metallic: you see a metal plate which is divided and what I did was mask off parts then spray a few coats of clear, I even turned the plate 90 degrees and did more masking, and finally as you see it in my hand the top/left side is the area I sprayed the heaviest which leveled out like glass, however when it dried it settled a little bit. In the sun it is hard to tell that the top/left is the heaviest but trust me. You can see that it does get shinny and if you spray it yourself you will realize thin coats do not produce that shine. so repeat and go for it! practice to learn how to use it.

I don't know what to say! you must be spraying too thin too dry maybe?
