is there a way to upgrade the solar controller to take more than 100W ?
@ldmcnutt3 жыл бұрын
Here's the components of this unit: 1) a 55 amp hour deep cycle battery valued at $100 2) a 1400 watt modified sine wave inverter, valued at $150. 3) a 6 amp 12 volt battery charger, valued at $30 4) a 2800 watt automatic transfer switch valued at $120. 5) fancy packaging so you don't have an eyesore of components lying around on a bench with exposed wiring. So you didn't mention the automatic transfer switch. It is one of the most expensive components in this unit and it is something that the lithium battery backups like Bluetti do not have. You can leave this unit on and run 1400 watts continuous from wall power for months at a time. Then when the line power goes off, it switches to battery in less than 20 milliseconds. I have not found any other pre fabricated units out there that can do this, other than battery packups from APC and Cyberpower, however they only have a 9 amp hour battery in them, making their run time 1/6th of what the Duracell unit is.

@@Glocktard for the last 20 years, all the uninterruptible power supplies on the market, like APC, Cyberpower and Dell have all been modified sine wave. It’s only been in the last few years that they have offered pure sine wave and 99% of the UPS units sold are still modified sine wave. They seem to work just fine for computers, monitors, TV’s, lights, etc. I haven’t tried them with drills or other items that use electric motors.

So WOULD it be a safe application to use this unit as a battery backup for a desktop PC? I'm not up on the sine wave discussion so I just worry if using this in that fashion would fry anything?
@ldmcnutt3 жыл бұрын
@@azrielsmith3167 up until maybe 5 years ago, there were no pure sine wave battery backups for computers. Since the 1980’s companies and home users have been using Dell and APC modified sine wave inverters on their computers with no problems that I’ve ever heard of. I have the Duracell power station running an Alienware Aurora R11, 4.9 ghz with nVidia RTX 3090 graphics card and have deliberately run it down to battery fail 3 times with no problem. I put mine on a small dolly(4 wheel) from Harbor Freight which makes it easier to move around. It takes 24 hours to fully charge and maintains the charge very well so far. It has a built in solar charge controller but it calls for a 12v solar panel input. My question is, my solar panels produce more than 12 volts out, will the higher voltage do damage to the onboard solar charge controller? Should an external charge controller be used to control the voltage?

From other reviewers it's a lead acid battery rather than lithium like many others. PMW charge controller instead of newer more efficient MPPT controller. Not pure sinewave inverter but modified sinewave. It is maybe a generation or more behind ones like Jackery and Bluetti. If the price is cheap or on sale maybe get one, but there are many better power stations out there. Lead acid batteries will fail long before lithium batteries do.
@jasonbroom71473 жыл бұрын
I agree that this model is a generation behind on at least 4 key areas. Where it does add value is as a giant UPS (uninterruptible power supply) and the ease with which you can attach more (lead-acid) batteries to it, extending the capacity. To some folks, that could make it a good choice. For my money, it's penny wise, pound foolish because of the limited life-cycle of the lead-acid batteries it uses.
@chuck_howard3 жыл бұрын
@@jasonbroom7147 I agree. The other option would be if you could get it for a VERY low price.

@@jeffmaas2792 Those are loads with motors and compressors. Even a 1000 watt "generator" would be pushed hard to possibly run them. Check the loads on each with a meter like the Kill A Watt and then choose a "generator" that puts out 30 - 50% more watts to cover the start up load when the compressors kick on. 1500 watts may do the job but you may need even more. I know Jackery makes a 1500 model but it's not cheap. This Duracell unit is overly optimistic about pushing out 1440 watts for even a short amount of time. That may be what it can do for a few seconds or a few minutes but then you also have the lead acid battery which only can be used at half the rated capacity. A 100 amp hour battery can only supply enough power until it gets to 50 amp hours and if you draw further you risk ruining the battery. Lithium cells can be used up to 80% of their capacity before they need to be recharged.

A generator will shine anywhere that you need it. I watched a utube video recently and the guy was testing generator power and a 1000 watt generator could charge a fridge or a tv no problem. This Duracell one is strong from what it seems but you say it only charges phones and laptops? I'm a little confused on what a good generator can charge now. You kinda explained yourself at the end when you say "I dont know". Maybe you dont know. I still appreciate the content. 🤙
@rmkvisions3 жыл бұрын
Well in my eyes there's definitely a difference between a generator and a power station. This is more of a power station and can be an electronic hub to keep all of your devices charged. It does not generate any power as you have to charge it in to plug it, pretty much a giant power bank. I think each have their uses, I would not want to depend on a power station like this for anything major but I would also rather have this in the back of my car while camping then have to have a big loud gas generator you know.
@justinwiseman89653 жыл бұрын
@@rmkvisions for sure I agree. It would be a task to survive off just 1 solar generator. This is why I have multiple ways for cooking. Gas and solar.
