This is just a general alkaline battery issue. When they get many years over expiration while stuck in a tight space, and most likely these were kept in a hot, humid attic during the summer, they will finally leak. I saw that many times a couple decades ago with kids toys in those exact conditions with all kinds of Chinese/American batteries alike. The smell is horrid.

It is true that any alkaline battery is prone to leakage eventually, but Duracell seems to be particularly notorious.

You could submerge those trays in white vinegar, the corrosion will be gone overnight.
@JordanU4 күн бұрын
I will remove the contacts and soak them in vinegar overnight, and hope that the corrosion will be gone by the next morning.

Unfortunately sometimes old batteries don’t explode, but battery brands like Duracell & Enegizer do
@JordanU4 күн бұрын
Any brand can, but some are certainly more prone than others, such as Duracell.

@ Duracell is terrible, I recently did a video on Walmart brand batteries and for the price. They’re not too bad

This is why batteries have expiration dates that warn people when they're supposed to be replaced, and why Woody advised Buzz to change the toys' batteries while he was at Cowboy Camp in Toy Story 2.
@JordanU4 күн бұрын
The batteries likely leaked because they sat completely discharged for an extended period of time more so than the fact that they're past the expiration date.

Yeah man I’ve had garbage luck with energizer like I said before. Duracell as well.. 😕
@JordanU4 күн бұрын
I come across far more leaking Duracell batteries than any other brand. I seldom find Energizer leaked like this.

Duracell and Energizer batteries give me the worst problems. I’m considering switching to a rechargeable solution such as Panasonic’s Eneloop cells. Great video and I would love to see these lights working, they’re really neat.

I use Eneloops and Eneloop Pro exclusively, very happy with them

Duracell is by far the worst for me, Energizer I seldom see leaked like this. I don't personally use alkaline batteries for much of anything anymore, I use NiMh batteries almost exclusively.

Bro I hate when batteries do that

i had a fluorescent fixture at my dads friends ranch. the tubes end popped off and the inside was rusted to bits, leaking capacitors, chewed wires and leaking vatteries

Not a common occurrence with energizer batteries. But it's a VERY common occurrence with dura garbage batteries.

Not good bro batteries always leak after a super long period of time
@JordanU4 күн бұрын
True a lot of brands will do this after sitting discharged in a device for an extended period of time.
@Ajcimo144 күн бұрын
Thoes batteries are probably 10 years old. So it's prone to leaking just because of how old they are
@JordanU4 күн бұрын
Given that they expired 10 years ago, they're probably more towards 20 years old.

I do not like alkaline batteries. It really is an environmental nightmare. I definitely prefer using rechargeables like Nickel Metal Hydride or Nickel Cadmium. They can be used a lot more and need to be replaced much less often. I would like to spend that little extra bit of money to get more use out of just one battery, instead of using it only once and then throwing it out.
@JordanU4 күн бұрын
I've used rechargeable batteries almost exclusively for years now.
