Duracoat Durability - 3 to 5 years later

Taking a look at a couple of my primary EDC items that were Duracoated a few years back, as well as one of the first knives I did probably about 5 years ago.

I did my first Duracoat application 6 years ago. While I was cleaning up afterwards, I accidentally got a drop of it on the kitchen floor. Besides myself, there are 4 kids and 2 dogs in the house. After 6 yrs of all that foot traffic and countless floor cleanings with a variety of chemicals, the drop of Duracoat is still there. It hasn’t faded or chipped. That drop has become my “scientific test”.

Thank you for speaking truth. I just left a comment on someone else's video that was kinda bashing duracoat and others and boosting cerakoat and I just left a big detailed comment telling them how to prep it and do it right to get good results. I'm sick of all these people bashing something when they don't do it right to even make a damn video. Clean, sand 300-400 grit, clean, prime, sand-600-800 grit, clean, paint-piss it on in 4-5 layers letting dry between each one. Dont spray two layers and think your golden. Multiple light layers then done. Overly simplified but that's the gist coming from an ex autobody technician. Great video thanks

yes exactly even metal I spray with a gun metal cleaner takes ever piece of dirt u can imagine of then do the sanding and I always use 4 coats and I the oldest I have is five years but it is used ever day and fired atleast a 500 rounds a month since and still looks just about like the day I did it if u clean it up good all u can see is minor wear from shitty holster more than anything any normal person wouldnt even notice... but I did it so I do notice the small thing I think I'm fixing to do a snake skin pattern on one of my AR s furniture the polymer anyways since reciever is already color I want....

Thanks for the video! Your right... lots of folks get stuck on a brand name thing and believe anything they hear. It becomes a dick measuring contest/ ego thing with a lot of folks.How thin does this spray on? A rhetorical question I know.Like you say...prep work is EVERYTHING! if u duracoat especially 3 to 4 coats it will last a lifetime I have a spider pattern I did just with the aerosol cans and looks great and no wear and gets used very frequently atleast 500 rounds a month...excellent vid.....

Looks like it holds up better than Cerakote. I have a G43 that the Cerakote wore off o the frame f in less than a year of EDC.

Like I said, Duracoat gets hated on by some guys, but if done right, it holds up great. That being said, I know I did some projects early on that were not great and probably didn't last as well as these did. A lot of it's the prep work and some of it is experience...but in the end, all those things equal, Duracoat will hold up just as well. I have a couple Cerakoted slides and tumbler cups now as well, and those get beat up and show the same wear the Duracoat projects do. No coating is indestructible.

Can you remove duracoat from a Glock slide ? Or will it ruin the factory finish on the slide ?

Can someone please tell mr if you need to add the satin, or clear coat after spraying with the duracoat system. They offer/sell it, just wasn't sure if I need it. Thanks.

Ya. Man, that was a long time ago. Haven't sprayed anything in about 6 years now.

Is this Duracoat the same Duracoat that comes out of the spray can? Is the stuff we get in the spray can the same stuff you had put on your gun and knife? Or is the spray Duracoat today better than the Duracoat your got? Or is the spray can stuff inferior to the Duracoat you got?

I have a paintball gun that is mostly Glass reinforced Nylon wich is all molded black. I want some contrast, would you recommend durakote or cerakote ?
