This will be lots of fun to replace when the pan breaks

Washer pans and drains are essential, especially when you have a first or second floor laundry room. My washer overflowed, ruined first floor, crawl space and finished basement. Also get water sensors for all sinks, water heaters, dishwashers and sump pump pits unless you have thousands to tear out and rebuild. Don't forget a whole house generator. Back up sump pump batteries only last 7 hours and if you're not home when it happens... After 3 basement floods, I take all precautions.

I have never seen a washer drain pan glued to the floor, and glued to the subfloor no less. Even the installation instructions accompanying drain pans describe using parts cited by C Mango, with no mention of gluing the pan to the floor. The manufacturers' are well equipped to determine proper installation.

Great informative video. What about the finished floor and pan workflow though? It does seem like the pan should sit on top of the tile.

How will the tile or finish flooring look butting up against the drip pan? Shouldn't the drip pan go on top of of the tile?

How do you undo this process if someday say this pan is broken and needs to be replaced?

The other thing missing is space for the trim along the wall. This job looks like it was done too fast without thinking.

Man, you make this look easy - but would rather have a pro such as yourself - do it for me (contractors aren't sexy as a rule, but you sure are! I love a man who knows his work and does it well)! Thank you for the lesson!

Our first home had a pan installed this way with linoleum flooring installed afterwards. There was a clean bead of clear caulking around the edge and it looked great and the pan was solid. It came standard on our first home. I paid an additional $200 for a drain pan when building our current home. We were disappointed to see a cheap flimsy pan that was installed after flooring was put down. Pan isn't secured to the floor accept where the drain is. The drain pipe sits about a 1/2 inch above the bottom of the pan so water sits in the pan instead of going down the drain. The plumbers had to come back and re-do the seal as it leaked and was visible on our ceiling downstairs. I'm now looking to install this type of pan on my own.

Where do you get the glued flange and drain. The pan didn’t come with it.

I am connecting my washing machine right now, does the drain hose go in that hole? Or what is this for?
@toddgddot2 жыл бұрын
no, this is for emergency overflow only
@lrojo5852 жыл бұрын
@@toddgddot thanks! after some googling I figured that out but I had already ran a self clean cycle. Should I be worried? Nothing leaked and the water didn’t overflow. After the self clean cycle I changed the drain hose to the correct hole and ran a quick cycle and all seems in order as of now.

What happens when the drain pan needs to be replaced? What about a P trap ? Even with a P trap what happens when the water in the P trap evaporates? I see nothing but problems with this.

This is wrong! You never want to GLUE one of these plastic pans to the drain and the subfloor. These pans inevitably break/crack and need to be replaced. There should be a threaded terminus on the drain pipe that accepts a threaded flange/rubber washer combo which holds the pan in place. If there isn't one there you or a plumber should install one. Yes you would have to remove a section of the subfloor to do this, but it's worth it when it comes time to replace this plastic piece of crap. Actually, he probably could have glued the threaded piece on without removing any subfloor. Even if this is one of those supposedly "unbreakable" pans, you should never permanently install a fixture this way. I call it a fixture because it's basically a big sink with no water supply (hopefully). What if the home owner buys a new washer/dryer of different dimensions, or wants to slightly change the location of the washer for some reason? I also agree with other comments that the pan should go on TOP of the finish floor, and AFTER any baseboard installation.

No flooring under it, no paint behind it, it will get destroyed by other trades, while the room is finished. You have demolish it, & ruin other finishes to replace it. Is there a trap in the drain? If there is, it will eventually evaporate & let sewer gas into the house, unless you regularly pour water in the pan. Individual trades don't care. They get in, get out, & blame each other for stupid installations.

Why do u need a wash pan?? Why not just put the washing machine on the floor?
@bcbock5 жыл бұрын
If your washer springs a leak, water will run down the drain, rather out into your house, ruining your floors and wicking into your dry wall where it could cause mold.

Was just wondering if the machine is upstairs Would make sense to me so it doesn’t flood the whole house or down stairs neighbours (flats) Here in the uk hardly anyone has it upstairs it’s all in the kitchen garage shed or utility room ⬅️ (but that’s for posh people) haha. My machine has a waterproof system so if it detects any leaks! The pump will kick in and It will drain all the water out sound an alarm. Tried and tested 9 months ago when the pressure switch failed. Had it fixed it’s all good now :)
