OMG, THERE SHOULD BE A "LOVE" THIS VIDEO BUTTON!!! This takes me back to the mid 80's (I was 19 years old) and several of the guys at our local flying field were flying Ugly Sticks and watching them is what got me into the hobby. Salute to the late William (BILL) Feldschau who taught me how to fly and I have loved the hobby ever since. Rest In Peace Mr. Feldschau, you were a true saint and teacher!!!

The British Army and the Royal Air Force (my mob) salute longest way up, shortest way down, palm forward. The Royal Navy salute with the palm down as, in the days of oak ships, their hands were stained with the tar used to caulk the planking. Dirty hands look untidy y'know!! I love all my Stiks, from the tiny Ultra Stik through the old Durafly with the dummy donk to my 2 metre span Stik with an OS 70 four stroke. I have varnished my Durafly with 6 coats of water based, gloss varnish then resprayed with Red Epoxy. She looks even more beautiful and is so slippery. God bless you Mr Kraft.

I have one of those in red, I need to get out and fly it! I had my first Ugly Stick from the original Jensen Kit in 1970. It had an Enya .60. Flew it hundreds of flights. I still have an unbuilt Jensen kit. The most fun "stick" I have had is I built a Great Planes Big Stick 60 and I put a piped OS 1.08 on it. Unlimited vertical! Very fun! Once again I will salute you both!

The idea behind the Ugly Stik was a simple, basic airplane, easy to build and a great flyer. I built my first in the early 70's as I recall, powered by my trusty K&B 40, so much fun! I currently have one with an OS 46AX engine, what a blast to fly!

Salute guys, thanks so much for posting these videos. With the Covid-19 crisis here all our flying sites, local ovals and playing fields are closed. Plus there is a max meeting of two people, or families, living together. Can only fly if you have a large private land or farm to do so. So it’s great to see you two flying. Keep up the good work, great fun and humour as well. Thanks so much for brightening our day. Cheers from Paul, Canberra Australia 🇦🇺

The good old Ugly Stick! In the late 70's, this was one of the "must have' pattern ships....easy to build, easy to fly and can do all the patterns if the engine is big enough. "But, it's an old design! Why would I want to fly an old design?" Because you can't improve perfection. SALUTE!!!!

My very first RC plane was an Ugly Stik in red Monokote. With some help from an accomplished pilot I kept it in one piece long enough to be able to solo it successfully. Years later I flew another one, again in red.

I met Phil Kraft at the Bremen World Championship in the late 1960s and he was a lovely man. He wanted a rough-and-ready plane, but he couldn't design a bad one, so this is as aerobatic as a World Champion like him could want while still being totally trustworthy at low speed. It flies well at all sizes that I've tried from 50cm span to 200cm, fitted with every engine type you could imagine all the way up to turbo-prop (not mine, that's too expensive for me). Everyone deserves to have a Stik in the shed or, ideally, as many as you can fit, I have six or so. Josh Bixler flew one of mine in France a few years back, he's a very nice man too, and I hope to have you both fly one of mine when we can put the virus behind us. PS Apologies from us Celts for occupying your country, but when I see how beautiful it is, I'm not surprised that we wanted to stay. Perhaps we are related!

Phil Kraft designed the plane to test his radio controllers. He needed something easily built in the event of crashes. It turned out to be an incredible flying sport plane. I just built Hangar 9's version called an Ultra Stick 10cc. I put a 15cc 4 stroke nitro engine. I built mine with flaps. It is one of the sweetest planes I have ever flown. I recommend it highly. The 4 stroke sounds great and is a perfect combination with this plane. Captain Blaz, you need to try this plane out with a 4 stroke nitro engine. You will be very pleased!

This was designed and first produced by Phil Kraft in 1966. Kraft was one of the pioneers in electronics and manufactured some of the first proportional mass produced radios in the day. I had a Kraft 4A as my third radio system. This is the most copied, most kitted, and most modified R/C plane in the US and maybe the World. If you want an awesome updated version, check out Horizon Hobbies Ultra Stick series. over the years they have made 4-5 versions using Quad flaps and ailerons., in several sizes, not sure what they offer currently. I drew up plans and a laser cutting pattern for the Ultrastick Lite, 120 version with about a 78" wingspan. It was one of the most awesome aerobatic planes I ever flew with a Torcman big 1000 watt motor. If you want to build, I will email you free the plans and laser files, complete with a digital copy of the original Horizon plane manual (now discontinued), plus a lot of pictures. . But I think you guys don't build from scratch much :) And since we are in lock down many places, anyone who mentions this video I will also send free the plans and files. We need something to do in this time. Just PM me there. www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?3074821-Ultra-Stick-120-light-plans-and-laser-files

I would have preferred a trike gear, but it is neat. Phil Kraft's original design was intended to be a simple one as he was doing a lot of engine development and radio gear testing at the time and needed a good hack airframe for the job. Probably kitted by more manufacturers and in more versions than any other RC design in history.
