Apologies for anyone who thought I was acting a bit ‘insensitive’ during ‘Sin of the City’. Going into it, I had NO IDEA that the song was about a real life incident. I originally thought they were just trying to depict ‘city chaos’.

Don't worry, unfortunately nobody even remembers that massacre nowadays! :) Anyway, I believe the Liberty vibe you hear in "Drowning Man" might lead to "Venice Drowning"

How did you get into DD? We all have a story. Mine is losing my grandma, moving to a new neighborhood, attending a drama school, and meeting my first love all in the same year as this record was played on the only station that played electro rock, trip hop, and house. I used to daydream music videos telling a story to each and every song from the record. I just felt reborn at that time.

Очень люблю Sin of the City, и в исполнении John Taylor Terroristen тоже! Какое соло Уоррена в конце, ого-го! На моём диджипаке с бонусным диском, постоянно запись застревала, диск ставал. Аккуратно протёр, было липкая смазка. Позже узнал, что весь тираж с браком. 🇷🇺 ❤

Ordinary World is my favourite song of all time . Back in 1993 , I was on a dialysis machine 3 times a week , I was only 23 . This became my survival song because I had to find a way to find the Ordinary World which I did , because in 1994 after 2.5 years on dialysis I got a kidney transplant which still works to this day . Now in 2023 , I'm recently divorced and once again have to find the Ordinary World but I will . I will survive ...

RE: ORDINARY WORLD: I really struggled to talk through Ordinary World. I know the lyrics of the song are very personal to Simon but after connecting with other fans of Duran Duran, I’ve learned that the song carries a lot of weight and emotion for them. Simon was once asked in an interview, what the most touching comment from a fan was and he responded with: “I can’t put my finger on a specific comment but I’ve received a lot of letters from people for whom the song Ordinary World is a real healer”. From Simon’s point of view, I think the lyrics address his loss and grief of losing a close friend but also about how he’s learning to move forward and to cope in a world that is no longer as special without his friend in it - it’s just ordinary.

Halfway through pandemic lock down I relistened to OW and got very emotional too and I have heard the song often since it came out. Totally understandable to have it stir up emotions becuase everyone lost something/someone during it and not alot of media has acknowledged it the trauma of the lock down/pandemic. Good for u to acknowledge it and only share as much as u want publicly. ♥️

When I saw Duran Duran in Birmingham earlier this year, it was 2 months after my mother passed away. Once Ordinary World was played, I sobbed in front of 14,000 people, specifically through the first verse. It's really ok to show your emotions, and not suppress them. Loving your videos btw. Having been a DD fan for nearly 40 years, it is refreshing to see someone discover the band who is a similar age to my own offspring. So pleased you have found them.

It's okay, I cry sometimes when I hear that song as well. Even hearing it on the radio growing up, I knew Ordinary World had a haunted, ethereal quality to it. Growing up and learning the meaning of the song, somehow I could feel the "ghost" of that even as a kid. Beautiful song, seriously one of the best songs ever written.

This was the album that, in my humble opinion, allowed Duran to cross over from the 80s into a completely new audience/world. A tour de force. I had been working in record (yes, actual records!) stores between '89 and '93 and there was a very quick change in styles and if this album didn't happen then the next 30 years of Duran would not have happened. But it did. And the last 30 years of Duran did too. And for that I, for one, am very grateful.

Although The Wedding Album was a great comeback for Duran Duran in the 90's, it was better known for the outstanding singles in the album. It was the last age of singles then, before the record labels stopped it altogether. As a die hard, I liked the Thank You album just as well, although the powers that be deemed it was a poor effort. Well, even Led Zeppelin and Lou Reed thought that Thank You was great!

Your emotions are so humbling with your tears during “Ordinary World”. Like you, I also attended their “Future Past” concert tour, except I did here in Portland, Oregon, last month on June 1. This song resonates with so many people at a very deep inner level. When Ordinary World was performed I looked around, as my personality is to naturally observe as a Psychotherapist, and I was absolutely overwhelmed when seeing the emotions at such a large scale. The whole stadium had a sense of the feeling of unity and oneness. Dr. Sanjay Kumar

Hi Kitty, thank for re-descovering all the DD albums. And today is the DD Appreciation Day in America..One thing for sure is that i'm so proud of those 5 boys singing and playing for 40years with so many great and different songs..they never give up, and Simon seems to me like the best friend trying to tell us don't give up even in the darkest time. There is a concert 2000 in Bethlehem you can find online, John was not there and I think Simon felt so lonely on the stage, and before playing OW he admit how importat the song have been for DD to going on...moving ♥️

When I first listened to it, my immediate reaction was "So THIS is what they were aiming at with Liberty but this time they hit the mark." - it's better in almost any way. Standouts for me are Come Undone and Sin of the City (especially the bridge and ending). BTW, there is a recent three-part documentary "The Road to Medazzaland" on youtube that combinded quite a few interesting interviews with the various producers of their albums. If you haven't seen it, it's worth a look.

"Ordinary World" is timeless and probably motivates listeners to continue to live. By the way, Duran Duran dedicates it to 🇺🇦 . I remember when my friend gave me the link to the video from the gig in Helsinki (Finland), where Simon said: "I think we should dedicate this song to the people on the Ukraine..." I also cried... This album also has some good b-sides "Falling Angel" and "A Matter of Fact"😉 I also like "Breath after breath" where Warren shows his love to Latin music👍 Very 90s album!

Having been such a huge DD fan myself since the very beginning, I can't tell how much it means to me to know they have such awesome fans such yourself, who appreciate their songwriting and musicianship for what is.. amazing! You have a very keen ear. I've thoroughly enjoyed every video you've put out so far. It's like listening to those albums I love so much, for the first time. I found myself becoming a little emotional during this video too. For me I think because this album marked DDs comeback. At a time when they'd been written off. Greetings! There's a lot to say about this album. It was a great comeback, after three years without recording. It worth it! Every track in this album is a great one. I remember to listen Ordinary World on the radio, and recognize Simon's voice, which gave me a smile on my face. It meant DD news. After buying the album (the first i didn't in LP), i was real surprised with that. You have Milton Nascimento (the brazillian singer you didn't recognize, which is crucial around here), you have a cover of Velvet Underground, and sexy stuff around Love Voodoo and UMF (you got the meaning), and an energic punch in the start with Too Much Information. The album title goes back to 1981, which meant a start, yet a restart. The known title - The Wedding Album - was from the first promos playing in the british radios, and have to do with the cover design - photo's from the band's parents' marriages. I know that the one in the upper right corner is from John's parents' marriage, recognizable from his autobiography. Yeah, the guys came back from the obscurity!...

I just want to say, showing your emotions during ordinary world is so beautiful, don't ever apologise for that. People should show it more.

I love how you feel the songs, this is a great album and confirm Duran Duran as a survivor of 80's band and evolution to then new sounds of 90's decade

In 2002. I lived in Pasadena, CA. and the huntington botanical garden where DD made a ordinary world video was near my house. I often visited there with listening ordinary world ! That was sooo amazing and emotional time. I love DD ! and love to you!

And if Ordinary World makes you want to cry then listen to the title track from Future Past, Duran's song from 2 years ago. I cannot listen to the song "Future Past" without breaking down.... So beautiful but so sad.

When I listen to Shelter it reminds me a little of Big Thing with Liberty but a little more enhanced. Warren's guitar sound on this track is very edgy and mesmerizing with Simon singing. Great Work on Wedding Album I must recognize their work. ❤❤

Great comeback album for Duran Duran. Yes I agree some of these songs with their lyrics and beats remind me of the Liberty album too. The lyrics to Ordinary World, Love Voodoo and Come Undone are deep and one of Simon’s best❤

I absolutely LOVE your reviews- they are from the heart. Ordinary World is an extremely emotional song- emotional lyrics, and guitars that tug at one’s heart. And Simon’s sings like an angel in pain. This whole album is flawless!

I have it on vinyl and I first purchased when it first came out for $24. I still have it and I only played it maybe once or twice. Of course, you're Android and my favorite band of the whole world.

I have absolutely loved ypur reactions on this journey. Although I don't want it to end, I am looking forward to their recent album 'Future Past' and your thoughts. It almosr... no, not almost... it brings you back around full circle to the beginning. But, we do still have a few more to go that we cannot overlook. Question... i know you saw them live recently, as did I and many others here I am sure. But, would you consider a live recording reaction, like Arena, maybe as a cherry on top at the end? Just for fun.

Hey Scott! That’s definitely something I could do. I’ve even found demos for some of the albums that I’d love to go through. The discography deep dive series will come to an end at some point but doesn’t mean Duran Duran content has to. 😎

Just as (in my opinion) "Every Breath you Take" is the greatest song of the 1980's, "Ordinary World" is the greatest song of the '90's. As close to perfect songs as any band can get

This album for me marks a turning point in DDs career. Ordinary World is a masterpiece track, I felt the same emotion. Such a wonderful lyric. The other standout that takes me back is Come Undone. This is also such a crafted and well-produced track. I remember seeing DD playing Ordinary World on Top of the Pops which was the popular music show in the UK, Simon sung it live and I got chills. It was the first time I had heard it, and was hooked. Great video BTW and love your reviews! Keep them coming!

I became a lyricist because of this album. I played it twice a day everyday for a year. Warren should be uttered in the same breath as other guitar gods. Sadly, the band, as Warren said, squandered the momentum.

Sin of The City is out of the ordinary and I never thought I would like it so much because when I listen to it I noticed 2 references in this song despite the incredible guitar presence that Warren did on this album. The sound part reminded me of a sample from a demo from the Liberty album called Bootleneck, there is a part that is a reference to Simon singing and John's bass part reminded me of the track Undergoing Treatment from the Medazzaland album, I heard the presence bass at the beginning, but it's a little slower. John's backing vocals on Sin of the City I take my hat off to hearing him and Simon on the chorus.

Actually Warren was the main driving force behind this album. Which is why the 90's saw the Warren effect on Duran Duran, which to me was more impactful than Andy Taylor (yes, I know Im going to be slammed by die hards, but Im a die hard too since 1981 😆), so this is an alternate view of the guitarist having an impact on Duran Duran in the 90's.

Re. Sin of The City lyrics. I always thought that, perhaps, in relation to 89 died, Simon was referring to the 87 victims + 2 (González and ex-girlfriend Feliciano) who effectively are dead: one being in prison for the remainder of his life [until death] and the other having to live on with that tragedy which would make living normally impossible [a living death].
