Looking back at all the bands and music I used to listen to back then, I'm surprised by the bands that I actually have a deep appreciation and respect for. I mean I liked the music of Duran Duran back in the day but because there was so much other music around back then, and because I was just a kid, they were lost in the mix of all the pop and rock and new wave bands that were around. But looking back, much of the music and many of the bands I once liked in the 80's I've since come to realise lacked true talent and musical production genius. Many were just disposable pop and rock artists. But Duran Duran were absolute geniuses at creating, arranging and producing unique, seductive and indulgent music that truly stands the test of time. Their videos are works of music video art. The guys are just such nice guys. They are truly dedicated to music as they are still producing music to this day. And they've released a number of hits over a span of 4 decades. They are exciting because they keep evolving and entertain us with new music and with their stories from their musical journey and with their music from their early days which is still pure ear candy.

What an absolutely wonderful tune. I was 9 years old when this was out. I had a best friend called Simon. (And, no, his surname wasn't Le Bon! Funnily enough!) He adored this song. I still remember him singing it one evening as we went home after mucking about for hours after school on the local playing field. 40 years ago, but an incredibly vivid - though not careless - memory. A couple of years later he moved to Surrey.....and, of course, eventually we lost touch. Have been trying to find him for the last 20 years or so, but all to no avail. I'm 50 now, and he will be next year. Simon, if you ever see this, get in touch. I'd give my right arm to reminisce about those childhood days with you.....and, hey, maybe play utterly brilliant stuff like Careless Memories whilst we do.

Is there anything more 80' s than the 'jogging in place to every other beat' dance? I've always thought of this as more of an Andy Taylor song, and maybe the most Andy song of them all, aside from 'Hold Back the Rain'- which is just dynamite. I find the interpretation of the song kind so literal as to be somewhat humorous, which is topped in humor by Simon's overdramatic acting. It's nice to see Andy mug for the camera, and John's always good eye-candy, but what really catches me by surprise is Roger's clothes. Everyone is completely New Romantic (Simon and Nick, predictably going all out), whereas Roger looks like he's ready to start on the Rio tour. I've always honestly thought every member of the band brings something valuable/essential, but have also always thought of Roger as the unsung hero. His drumming is tight, flawless, relentless and really perfect on every song. Such a great band- even on b-sides like this.
