Your Dad is absolutely correct! I love to travel and almost turning 49yrs old this year I have been to 60 countries and counting as of this time. I was in Sri Lanka last month and as we toured this particular Buddhist site my husband and I both thought of this song! This song has always been an all time favorite of mine from the 80's and faintly remembered the exotic location where this video was filmed. I told him I felt like I was in Duran Duran's video as we walked around admiring this huge carving of Buddha. Later on I scrolled on KZbin to track this video down that I have not seen in years and long behold I see all the these beautiful scenery... the same ones we saw in Sri Lanka!!!! If you get the chance go visit Sri Lanka and you'll see what I mean.

Such a masterpiece is transcendental as every masterpiece. I believe they felt all the timeline connecting them with eternity at the time they've created the song. So basically you're right. It works both ways and connects us to 1982 with all these hopes, mindsets and insights, all the future promises and evidences of zeitgeist. That's why we feel and hear something besides the sonic curves. That's why many of us that weren't born yet in 1982 experience strange nostalgia. We almost hear the time itself.

Why does this song mean so much to me, well.... I'll tell you. It isn't the song alone, and if it didn't have that tiny little piano sound I might not feel so tied to it. But it pulls my soul strings because I have lost nearly all of my family since I am older, and even when I was younger, losing a love, and that little sound in the background reminds me of when I was a very little girl, and my mom bought me a little play piano that sounded like that, for Christmas, and I never forgot that wonderful little toy that turned me into a deeply moving, professional singer surrounded by musicians. I love the harmonies, I love the other instruments in the background, but that little piano still brings tears to my eyes...I simply miss my childhood beyond belief as I get closer to my end, now after 72 years.

I completely and utterly resonate with the essence of your comment. Even though I was born in '81, listening to this song evokes a profound, inner appeal with the longing and muted regret that I have about fundamental issues in my life that I appear to have only grasped a significant understanding of when it is too late. I only have my mother left in my life as a strong connection but even that connection is still in a phase of raw development due to the ignorant ingrate I was as an only child with divorced parents. Anyway, I wish you the warmest and most soulful, wholesome vibes with the most divine of blessings, from Sydney City, Australia!

I am an excellent mother. My son, who is 19 blasts Duran Duran with his excellent sound system and truly understands and appreciates this group. Hey, what can I say? Seeing this video causes my mind to do flips because I look in the mirror and what I see does not comport to what I feel. I'm so grateful to have been a teenager and young adult in the 80's, it's hard to explain, you had to have been there to experience it, we didn't know it at the time but in retrospect it was a great decade.

Jack Stovall I was 15 years old in 1983 when Duran mania was at its peak, and you're right it was the best time to be a teenager!

The 80's was such a beautiful decade. Nice music, the vibes you felt so positive and anti-establishment rebellious spirit. Such cool time when you felt invincible with tremendous faith and hope for the future. Love the 80's wish I could revisit.
