Born and raised in Durand. I had to cross all those tracks 2 times a day to get to school.....And both my Grandfather and Uncle worked for the RR!!

Nice catches! I was out here 2 weeks ago on vacation and it's a very nice place to be. Very cool to know a little more about this station than I thought. 12:05 - Really surprising they blew the horn

The farthest north that Great Lakes Central goes is Petoskey. I’ve followed GLC a couple times last year in Traverse City and Williamsburg.

I live in Indiana, I used to see Amtrak on the CN (GT) line going through northwest IN going up to Battle Creek and beyond. The Blue Water train no longer uses CN (GT) between Battle Creek and Chicago. Maybe this was a temporary thing idk.
@ThornappleRiverRailSeries4 жыл бұрын
The Blue Water was not a part of Amtrak at its formation in 1971, so service over the GTW was then discontinued. When it was revived by Amtrak a few years later, they used the same routing as the Wolverines from Chicago to Battle Creek, via the Michigan Central, turning onto/off of the GTW at Battle Creek, which remains the existing route today.

Funny to watch your work 3 years later...and realize how much has been changed on scene and improved upon in your production quality - I think a 2018 edition of this video is in order!

Thornapple River Rail Series I agree. Back on Tuesday, I caught CSX’s Q326 going through Hudsonville on its way to Grand Rapids from Chicago.

Just a correction, HESR 702 is the southbound, 701 is the northbound. CN 5715 W - M399. CN 8842 E - M348. CN 5734 E - M398. CN 2410 N - A451. BNSF L/P - C765. GLC SB - OSTN. CN WB w/D9/SD70M-2 - L501. CN EB W/Cowl units x2 -M332. A little info I hope helps ya. I've been going to Durand since I was in diapers. I know these trains. :) Nice video as well, probably one of the nicest Durand video's I've watched.

Its December 2017 and when were the silver boxes removed from just across and west of the station between the two tracks? There are not there now.
@ThornappleRiverRailSeries7 жыл бұрын
I'm not certain of the boxes you're talking about, but since this video, they've replaced the signal system so my best educated guess was that they were part of the old signal system and so died with it.

I remember my dad use to pick me up here when I came home for the weekend. When I was taking flying lessons, for night training my instructor had me fly circles over Durand so that he could watch the porno movies at the drive-in movie.

Awesome video! About what time did this first blue water train stop in Durand? I am going to Durand tomorrow and would like to know when the blue water trains usually stop here.

Check the amtrak timetables. Plus there is always asm.transitdocs.com for a live Amtrak train tracker.

I really miss going here when I lived in Flint. My son and I would go there on Saturdays and just hang out all day averaging 30 to 50 trains a day. Note to future trip planners wanting to go here the museum is free they just ask for donations. And in the back is a huge ho layout based on Durand back in the 50s that is only open on saturdays

Now, I thought they replaced the diamond at least a year or 2 ago. Familiar with the GTWHS and it was in the news. I don't think it would be considered aged?
@abelwayne96138 жыл бұрын
A slight correction, that is NOT red, white and blue, it is red SILVER and blue. Only later on did they use white on the middle stripe. I know, I have been painting custom locomotives for a customer for years, in Ho scale of course!

I doubt anyone will answer my question by when is the best time to go to Durand and what day
@ThornappleRiverRailSeries7 жыл бұрын
There is no particular day which will be significantly busier than any others. Mornings and evenings are busier than midday. You won't see any trains unless you go. Don't worry about how many you'll see or what's leading. Just go!
@hollysubrailfan18917 жыл бұрын
So you must have been in Durand all day long to see all that the most I see there is 2 trains and I am there for 2 hours in the morning.
@ThornappleRiverRailSeries7 жыл бұрын
Well you're going to average 1-2 per hour at Durand, so that sounds about right. Durand is NOT the Chicago Line. That being said, you're only going to see trains if you're by the track. With how varied operations can be, trying to find a specific hour on a specific day is just impossible. You'll enjoy it much more to get some patience and see what shows up, since of worrying about racking up huge unrealistic counts.

Still a wonderful railroad town, but it lost a little bit of nostalgia as horns are banned in the city limits. Trains without horns are unamerican!!
