Hi Jacob, Thanks for watching and commenting on this old post and older video. My favorite engine as it was my foot in the door. I was hired to help/grunt put the 486 back in service after a 50 year + hibernation.

Robert Whitney I will be retiring at the end of December. I wish it were possible for me to come out to Durango and work seasonally for the D&SNGRR !! But finding a place to stay that I could afford......Not to likely. 😕. I love the D&SNGRR though. I come out as often as I can to ride the train. I rode so often over the years, I could probably act as a narrator for the other passengers! 😂

Have a metal plate in my finger from breaking it on 486.

Tell me more about your metal plate in your finger from breaking it on my favorite engine #486. Thanks Chris, for watching and commenting.

@@whitcraft2I was an engine watchman at the D&S about 10 years ago. Got my finger caught between the heavy pneumatic grease gun and the main driver trying to get the gun at the awkward grease fitting position. The 486 was my favorite at the time cuz it seemed to be in better condition than the others. This video shows a good idea of what the job was like.

At first I thought 481 had the 6 chime. But it was 473.

Where do you get a new spring, maybe Amazon or Autozone?
@cwhuffman016 жыл бұрын
HOWARD KING More or less it has to be special made or adapted from something else. You can’t just go down to Autozone and buy a spring pack for a tender truck.

A lot of hammer banging. Kinda silly. Needs more swearing and a punk kid telling a old timer what to do
@whitcraft26 жыл бұрын
Hi Dano, the hammer banging on the nuts and bolts is part of the inspection process as a loose fastener sounds different and yes at one point he was being silly and playing a tune.
