Sir I have one query, in previous videos you said that there in no such thing like lock associated with sleep method or yield method as lock is associated with synchronization only. Now here in this video at 50:30 you mentioned that sleep(), yield() and join() methods don't release lock. This has created confusion in my mind so request you to explain me what is true.

see we can use sleep() yield() and join() method inside synchronized block/method as well as outside synchronized and if we are using these method inside synchronized then also these threads will not release lock until they complete their task, but in case of wait() notify() and notyfyAll() methods we can use only inside synchronized.

@ganeshjogam78376 жыл бұрын
Awesome lecture Sir. In this video if the thread is interrupted then it will go into another waiting state or runnable state directly because thread might have been in waiting state by calling sleep which does not release lock. So does it depends whether the thread is holding lock in waiting state to decide the next state

In thread-lifecycle discussion, if time expires or, waiting thread got expired, then thread will enter to "Another Waiting-state". But, my question is from there, how that thread will "get the Lock" to come to "Ready/Runnable " state ?

@DJ Anon. Hi. As per my understanding, the thread(which calls wait) will acquire the lock as usual as soon as the another thread(which calls notify) releases the lock. But it may not release the lock immediately, till the time, it goes into another waiting state. Then, once the other thread releases the lock, it will acquire the lock and gets into Ready state. @Durga Software Solutions . Please correct if my understanding is wrong.
@v.r.4996 жыл бұрын
may be i misunderstand because of my english but can you solve this confusion ? Q. Forward To Time 54:15 => when thread invoke wait() method , it will release all locks acquire by that thread of one object type or all object type ? i means if thread acquired some locks on object 1(one) and some locks on object 2(two) .... here will thread release all locks of object 1 and 2 ???? Assume wait method calls on object 1(one) ? ===> docs.oracle.com/javase/7/docs/api/java/lang/Object.html#notify() public final void wait(long timeout) throws InterruptedException => Note that the wait method, as it places the current thread into the wait set for this object, unlocks only this object; any other objects on which the current thread may be synchronized remain locked while the thread waits. oracle documentation also wrote some statements about wait releasing locks in javaDoc : total confusion ? please solve my misunderstanding ? Thanks :)
@srikanthchowdary85953 жыл бұрын
if a thread has to call wait() method you are saying it has to get the lock of object, but in multithreading concept if another thread has a lock of an object the other thread automatically goes to waiting state even though it doesn't has the lock of that particular object

in this case the thread not even entered into block/method, what if we want to perform some line of code and after that we want to call wait() method then that thread has to release lock of that object and goes to waiting state......

Why wait, notify, notify all methods present in object class. I thought, if a thread goes to waiting state it cannot get out of waiting state itself. There should be a mechanism to push the waiting thread from waiting state to runnable state. May that is also another reason why all 3 not present in thread but in object.

Sir, I have one concern. Lets say, there is a thread t2,which is holding locks of four different objects. If notifyall() has been called by this thread t2, whether only all those waiting threads will be notified which are waiting locks for the same objects , of which t2 had taken the locks or all entire threads, which are waiting for any object's lock, will be notified.

He already explained in video that some operating systems like windows 7 don't give support for priority....

doubt : suppose thread t1 has lock and call yield(). there is another thread t2 which has higher priority than t1 but it also require lock of same object . so which thread got the chance first to execute ?
@kjkanishk75757 жыл бұрын
acc to me, if t1 has the lock and calls yield(), then t1 will enter waiting state, and the processor will be assigned to t2 eventually. if t2 has a higher priority and t1 has the processor then until t1 calls yield() or join() or wait() method, it wont be leaving the processor... btw ur case is just imaginary and if u do this its not a good programming practice coz just think this, if updation is performed before the t1 enters for waiting for the updation then what will be the use of notify() and wait() methods.

isn't it thread only got the lock if it's inside synchronised area and to be inside synchronised area it should be in running state....then how thread gets back to runnable state from second waiting state instead of going to running state itself.....if that's the case if another thread have to access synchronised area it must have to wait for the thread which has the lock and currently is in runnable state to get into the running state and releases the lock??

sir, can you please help me with below program. Use two threads to print ping pong in alternate sequence for infinite times as follows. thread 1 ll print ping and thread 2 ll print pong. ping pong ping pong . . .
@anuragdeepverma95418 жыл бұрын
so you need code for this case study .. or you forgot to share your code ?
@anuragdeepverma95418 жыл бұрын
code is simple .. make two threads and run them together... and you can create one thread and the other thread job is done by main thread
@anuragdeepverma95418 жыл бұрын
but if you need to print ping pong in alternate sequence , then this is not an independent job.. both jobs(printing "ping" and printing "pong") are dependent on each other .because you want to print them in alternate fashion. so we are missing the key concept of thread which is "executing several independent task of same program"

Sir why wait, notify and notifyall methods in defined in object class instead of Thread class. I did Google but couldn't get the proper answer.
