It's really admirable what the Durian lady does. She's probably helped out a lot of people like small, small farmers along the way. Like the durian Johnny apple seed.

Just a little thai trivia: monthong (pronounced “mawn tong”) means golden pillow. Nuantongchan means something like golden ivory Puangmanee is something like manee’s bunch of flowers or a bunch of gems Chanee is a little trickier one meaning of chanee is gibbon, but that seems like a weird name for a durian

Flash frozen is really important, the faster you freeze something with water, the smaller the ice crystals are. If the ice crystals are very big, they are actually so big they destroy the cells of the fruit, which is why is gets so mushy

@@garmancathotmailcom nah just left to rot, if a yield or grow gets fucked or goes bad due to unexpected weather etc, nothing gets done in support for the farmer, if land is degraded to a point of not being able to grow quality as previous, its up to the farmer to foot that cost. this was a MASSIVE issue with milk farmers and still is, in the UK, the prices dropped so low some companies and farms had to completely shut down operation since the milk was sold less than what they paid into the cows and care and maintenance of the project. this technically becomes an issue due to our higher than average standards on production of stuff like eggs or milk etc. which is why it ends up costing so much to maintain for farmers. either way in either country on either side its the shops that make the most money.

I am so glad you said it has an oniony taste to it. I tried durian for the first time in the form of a boba drink made with real durian at a Vietnamese restaurant next to the Asian market where they got said durians from. At first the taste was bizarre and weird and unidentifiable, but strangely enjoyable. Then, I realized the flavor was oniony and while an onion milkshake sounds terrible, there was something about it that was so addictingly good. I went back and tried all of their fresh-fruit bobas over time and the durian was my favorite by far.

Very good! It sounds similar to Ubajay... but, keep in mind that if you ever taste Ubajay, it should be a sweet variety, and an "overripe" fruit! (fall from the tree, wait 1 day or 2) you should taste many of them from many trees until you get good ones... (it is my favourite Eugenia!)

I would totally buy one and I've been wanting to ever since I saw your last videos, but every time I check it's $50 to ship to Canada, that's like twice the cost of the durians itself. Does Year of the Durian ship to Canada? Because one of these days I'm going to *need* to try durian, and I live literally in the middle of nowhere. Worse, one day durian appeared by sorcerous means in my local grocery store, and I nearly bought it. I know now I dodged a bullet because it was totally one of those artificially ripened ones. I tried durian in thailand. I bought one at a roadside stand it had the texture of a slightly under ripe mango. The flavor was slightly sweet and somewhat musty. Overall I liked it but I wouldnt call it great. I later bought one in a market that had a sticker indicating it was voted the best durian on the world that year or something like that. After I opened the package I was overcome with the desire to throw up. The smell was so bad. It was like death had diarrhea in its mouth with the worst halitosis possible. I threw it away without even trying it.

you get transport vessels with built in freezer or refrigeration units inside. lol an ice pack wont do nothing on a ship or plane sadly especially with bulk product. sort of like some fresh food delivery trucks here in the UK, the whole back box area of the van/truck is a freezer, for transporting goods like meat or fish or sensitive products etc.

I find this surprising. Based only on the reviews most Americans give durian is the most disgusting fruit ever experienced. The late food aficionado and world traveler Anthony Bourdain once said that after eating durian, "Your breath will smell as if you'd been French-kissing your dead grandmother." I've read that the odor of the durian makes it prohibited in many public buildings and public transport as many people find the smell quite objectionable. So how did she package these to self-contain it's smell? Airlines allow this? I have questions...
