FUN FACT:…it was Garry Moore who gave Carol Burnett her first big break in television…for 5 seasons beginning in 1957, she appeared regularly on The Garry Moore Show along with Durward Kirby…so awesome to see the three of them together again on Carol’s program

Oh, at long last; I have this episode on DVD, but I've been waiting so long to see it uploaded here so I can show my friends the reunion of three absolute legends of the television screen. And you know how close she is to Garry and Durward because, TO my knowledge, they're the only guests she's only called by their first names.

@@shyman99 I wonder that myself, actually, given I own a LOT of Carol Burnett DVDs (4 of the 6-disc sets, 3 of the single-disc sets, and Show Stoppers), but I know I am FAR from owning them all, so I use this channel to watch the ones I don't have on hand usually.

She started her career as a regular on Garry's show before she began her own show. It must have been quite a honor for her, to have the same man who used to be her boss as a guest star on her show.

The drunk scene with Garry Moore and the office sketch with Durward Kirby are recreations of sketches that were originally done on The Garry Moore Show. I remember seeing these sketches on The Garry Moore Show, as they were two of the funniest and most memorable ones that were done on that show. It is great to see Caroll Burnett, Durward Kirt-by, and Garry Moore together again and performing routines they had previously done.

There was an episode of "Mary Tyler Moore" where Phyllis says, "Getting Sir Laurence Olivier to do those commercials was a waste of money...they could've saved a fortune and gotten Durward Kirby!" Oddly enough, Sir Laurence did appear on the Burnett Show at least once in the studio audience. Harvey had one of his dreadful mess-ups and the camera caught Olivier's reaction to it...hilarious.

When life was good, and people conducted their lives AS IF they had morals, humor was basically clean, rarely were children born out of wedlock (because it was a disgrace and spoke poorly of YOUR morals). More people went to church than not, and most households were two-parent house holds. People looked outside themselves more, rather than being completely self-absorbed! Gasoline was thirty-three cents ($.33) per GALLON, and for $25 you could purchase a week's worth of groceries for a family of four. I know because I saw my mom do it every week! And we had nice meals made with quality food. We didn't have to eat "on the cheap", because $25 bought quality food. And the MUSIC was WONDERFUL ALL of the time! Such talented artists! And Casey Casem kept us goin' and up to date on the week's Billboard Hot 100s every weekend on the radio on Saturday night! What a joy!! Life was better then. I would gladly trade in my cellphone, my laptop & printer, fax, scanner, copier, and the INTERNET & social media to have it ALL back.

Carol made a point in the Q&A about being beautiful - if you're too pretty, you can not do comedy. Luckily, Carol always looked great but she could not have done that show if she were drop-dead gorgeous and I think most comedians would concur. Tim was the same, as was Vicki. Harvey was tall, dark and handsome but by the time he did the Burnett Show he was already 40.

Some of the questions that are asked at the beginning of the show are so rude. I know the plastic surgery question is supposed to be a joke but seriously? I've also seen episodes where audience members became suggestive/innapropriate. Yet Carol was always classy in spite of it. Her responses are always so gracious.
@MykelLinden3 жыл бұрын
Carol wasn't no Angel herself, though. :P Some of her responses could get rather lewd. One audience member in, I think it was actually the pilot or close to, complimented her Mickey Mouse watch, and after thanking the audience member, Carol quipped; "You should see it at 6:30." XD

Shoplifting is outrageous!! I twice bought items that were tampered with. One turned out empty, no content in and the other one was used and filthy. There is a follow up... I was too ashamed to return the empty one for I was afraid the workers there who are friendly with me will start to have second thouht about me and it’s the market where I shop most but since the other place whose workers don’t know me I returned the used item which looked nothing like the item on the package and guess what happened.. I was mistreated and been called a liar!!! 🤦🏻♀️ I was never been humiliated like that before. They were idiots but I was so much of a lady to get down to their level. All I said was, « If I was trying to fool you wouldn’t I at least return it back clean? », and the company I was with paid them to close the issue instead of backing me up which upset me so. That company was unfortunately my husband at the time.. not anymore, he isn’t!
