Strangely enough, the scariest part of the story for me was the part about the messenger. It's never explained who he is or what it was that sent him running off screaming, nor whatever happened to him afterwards. Such a huge unsolved mystery to an already mysterious series of events.

An excellent telling of the original Stalvan story, I still prefer that to the cataclysm version though that one isn't without its charm as well. I've sometimes wondered if that forlorn spirit which appears along the way may be the ghost of Tilloa.
