As we arrived in Twee Riviere, we were immediately struck by the beauty of the small village. The town is charming and picturesque, with a quaint old-world aqueduct system that carries fresh mountain water to every home. It's incredible to see how this ingenious system has been in place for so many years. We learned that Twee Riviere has been around since 1765, and it has grown into a thriving village with homes, barns, and paddocks. As we explored the village, we couldn't help but admire the natural surroundings. Situated in the Langkloof Valley, Twee Riviere is part of one of the most scenic sections of Route 62, with stunning mountains and valleys as a backdrop. The peacefulness and rural qualities of the area were so refreshing. We felt like we could just relax and breathe in the fresh country air. Overall, our travels through Twee Riviere were truly unforgettable, and we would highly recommend this charming town to anyone looking for a tranquil escape. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #travelongravel #easterncape #tweeriviere

The owner of farm Twee Riviere shortly before the Groot Trek was a Ockert Olivier x Anna Catharina Strydom, granddaughter of Matthijs. Ockert is listed as a warrior in the Slag van Bloedrivier

Childhood memories. The house you described as gorgeous is where I spent many holidays. It used to belong to my aunt, Lucy Olivier, (yes Olivier what else..). She was the widow of Gielie Olivier. She lived alone in that house for many years. Later my cousin, Patsy who was married to Eben, (you guessed it), Olivier, lived there until her untimely death. There is the pakstoor. On the left. That is where they used sort peaches. Then the road makes a right turn but not before you see the wooden doors of the double garage on your left. Although it is closer to the neighbour's house, it belongs to the big house on the right. The kids next door, Hannes and Madelein, (Olivier of course), were about my age. Oom Giel Olivier was the foreman way back when. Another oom Giel Olivier came to the house twice a day to milk the cow. That was a highlight in my day as I got to operate the separator. The house itself is huge. Rooms both sides of the large stoep. If my memory serves me right, there are five bedrooms inside the house. In the afternoon kids had to retire to their rooms and had no choice but to stare at the yellow wood ceiling. The yellow wood floors were a bit creaky so we could not sneak out while the old folks took a nap. It is only now that I appreciate the yellow wood interior. Back then I was too young. The smell of wood and apples though is unforgettable. I wish I had the maturity to ask questions, like was that the original farmhouse and was that the farm called Tweeriviere. It is the biggest, grandest house in the area, so it could well have been. The orchards are all over so it is difficult to tell which belongs to which of the houses. I think in the end all of the original farmland was sold. Only the house remained. Pity it is behind a wall now and I have no idea who owns it.

Wow, thank you for that very interesting history, info and background! 👌🏻 As the highlight for you was operating the separator, the highlight of your comment for me was the gentleman who came to milk.the cow twice a day I just love that! 😍🐄 We've stayed at a few farmhouses with very creaky floorboards, so that resonated with me too! Those says you describe sound like the perfect childhood and, you're so right, we didn't think so at the time. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Hi, we live in tweeriviere, the house you see before the river's bridge behind walls belong to the du toit family and the old farm house across the camelot sign belongs to eduard olivier, that is the original farm house from way back when....

Hi you two! Thank you for picking me up! Those mountain views in your drone footage took my breath away. Also in town you can hardly look anywhere without seeing the magnificent mountains. It is again wonderful to see a "small" place with a 250+ year history thriving and not losing its identity through the years. Beautiful green tree lined streets, not to mention the two giants reaching for heaven! The houses with their gables are magnificent. (The Transvaal town I was born in also had a channeled irrigation system along the streets, from which you could water your property by pushing down a handheld sluice). Just when I thought we might have to make do with the Express track crossing the tar road and a scant view of the old station: Voila!! The BRIDGE! Thank you for another beautiful and interesting trip. I'll wait patiently for the next one. Keep safe!

The magnificent surroundings had a deep impact on us as well and it was incredibly beautiful everywhere we looked. The drone shots really highlighted the beauty for me as well and I was quite happy with the result! 🤩⛰️ We've never seen palm trees quite as high as those two which you rightfully call giants, they were gorgeous! 🌴💚 How interesting that your birthtown also had the irrigation channels feeding each house, that is amazing! That train bridge was the crowning glory of our visit to fabulous Twee Riviere! 🚙😁

@Anna Witter We were happy to finally see some identifiable pears being transported in a tractor, no less! 🍐🚜 Where we live, we never see tractors, so we love it when we drive down the roads in these little places and along comes a tractor! Hi guys amazing video as you both said it's like a trip back in time Cape Dutch style houses neatly trimmed hedges I will be checking the glass of the windows after your interesting information I remember those little boxes in the post office the house you filmed with the road though it looks like a coach house to me shame you couldn't film inside the kitchen it looked interesting. I love the little channels and a sleuse in each house. I'm glad you were able to find the station even though it is being used as shelter for the cattle Twee Rivier had such a peaceful vibe and the tractor with pears topped it off thanks for taking me along cheerio till the next one

Wat een juweel van een brug in de laatste seconden. Yes, we all want the apple express back! 🚂

That train bridge was such a surprise and I was so happy to catch it on camera! 😁 I've made a note of 'Apples and Pears' in The Hague and will most certainly check it out if we're ever lucky enough to visit! 🍎🍐🇱🇺 We just loved those two calves standing in the shade of one of the old station buildings! Two of the things we love in one place, that was great! 🐂🚉 I hope you enjoy your fruit and we shall see you at the next stop! 🚙🤩

@@DustBugsTravel I watch most of your videos in full - I also do the road less travelled. In this instance, Ruben must have used his discretion. They are a delightful and very private family. So the thought of your cameras just closed the door. Go back without the camera and the PR (they don't need nor want it) and have the experience.

It is of course entirely their choice and I fully respect that. If you think the point of filming places for the videos on our channel is PR, you're completely off course. I started making these videos for my mom who is wheelchair-bound and unable to travel anymore. I will continue with my camera as I am now and where it isn't welcome, I'm happy not to go. 🤷‍♂️ We have plenty of incredible experiences exactly the way we travel now. There are too many other places left to explore and discover, we won't be back to the Langkloof for a long time.
