During our visit to Kareedouw, we were immediately struck by the stunning location of the town between the Tsitsikamma and Zuuranys mountains. It was breathtaking to see such natural beauty all around us. One of the highlights of our visit was the Dutch Reformed Church, which was built with stone with a memorial garden next to it. It was fascinating to learn that the former Prime Minister and State President of South Africa, John Vorster, was buried there. The church grounds were absolutely gorgeous and provided a very peaceful setting. We also had the chance to explore some of the local pubs, including Baardt-Bek and Ferrari's Pub and Grill. Both places were unexpected finds in Kareedouw and seemed as if loads of fun could be had there, places where you could let your hair down and have a good time. Overall, our visit to Kareedouw was a wonderful experience, and we loved exploring all that the town had to offer. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #travelongravel #easterncape #kareedouw

I love the excitement in the uncomplicated things. To travel this country is a blessing that more people need to explore as opposed to running to foreign lands. This country is so amazingly beautiful.

It is a little gem of a town and I'm so glad we finally got to see it! We've heard of it so many times. It certainly still looks like it could be Town of the Year and the folks are super friendly. 👌🏻 I'm glad you enjoyed Kareedouw with us. We had a party through the streets! 😁🚙

I'm not 100% sure, but once heard that Assegaaibos Station was used early years as a training facility for railway workers from Port Elizabeth. They then stayed over at the current Assegaaibos Guest Lodge opposite the station.

Judging by the size of Assegaaibos, I can very well believe that! 🚉 We will definitely check out the hotel when we're in the area again in the future, it sounds like it too has quite a bit of history attached to it! Thank you for the info! 🚙👌🏻

My invisible, silent back seat tour group, Curtis & Sonia...Kareedouw families, what a memorable town. I second Nic Grobler's emotional comment "The statue of the woodcutter shows how much the community appreciates hard work. No wonder the town is thriving." What also struck a cord with me about the beautiful church and it's surroundings, was the visible info about the place, the pics of the church's progression, even the surrounding wall plaque. Just an observation, the preacher, Paul Louis Louw, was only 43 when he passed away and when he was 36, he was serving 3 other congregations as well, 🙏🙏🙏 R.I.P. preacher you gave your life to God and the people. Now, the Ferrari's Pub & Grill!, excellent venue for small intimate weddings, having a party or just chilling. A lot of thought went into the vibe and atmosphere any visitor would enjoy. As a footnote, it seems as if we lost "Verity" along the way Curtis.

The church and its grounds are truly magnificent and the town of Kareedouw has every reason to be proud! 💒🌳 It's always fun to visit venues like Ferrari's Pub & Grill because I firmly believe that fun is an essential part of every person's life. I think a whole lot of fun can be had there! 😁🍻 Our backseat is big enough for everyone, but lives are led and some will leave to never return. Others will always come back. All good though, we shall keep travelling regardless! 🚙🤩 Thank you for being one of those who come back often, we appreciate that!

Julle twee is besonders! Ek het SA 25 jaar gelede verlaat, ter wille van die veiligheid van my geliefdes en geleenthede vir my kinders. Ek is tuis waar ek is, maar mis my geboorteland nog steeds. Julle vul 'n leemte, DANKIE!

Hi again, been through Twee Riviere, Kareedou, etc etc but when I say through I mean through. Now I can say I've visited these places as I've traveled with you and Sonja, absolutely lovely. We usually travel with our daughter & her only must stop is the butcher in Kareedou . Best biltong, dry wors ever. Now I can actually tell her what she's missing by just driving through . Was also just a drive through when we stopped @ campus restaurant.Thank you & plse don't forget I have a season ticket for the back seat😊

Yes one is truly surrounded by beauty out there. Baardbek looks a lovely place to hang out with friends and a dop of twee! Wow! Is that a record library in Ferraris? Thats so awesome! The riempiestoele take me back a few. My grandparents had them. The church is magnificent, it looks to me like a hand with the forefinger raised in warning. I was in matriek when Vorster was in power. Who calls his child Balthazar! Liewe hemel! Is this the same Paul Sauer that the dam is named after? Assegaaibos is a surprisingly large station. So beautiful. Those boxcars look like they may have transported livestock. A very interesting visit. Thank you.

@Anna Witter There is indeed quite an impressive collection of vinyl records and four-track cassettes at Ferrari's Pub & Grill! 🎶 It was a bit of a search, but I was happy to eventually find John Vorster's gravesite, what a peaceful resting place at that incredible church. 💒 As far as I know, it is the same Paul Sauer who both the school in Kareedouw and the dam (now Kouga Dam) was named after. 🚙😁

Hi you two. Thank you for picking me up for this trip into Kareedouw under the beautiful skies! What a spacious town! Clearly no problem with parking space at the Mall. If there's one place I would like to spend some time quenching my thirst, it is Baard-Bek, especially if they have some show going on that outdoor platform. The Ferrari Pub looks too grand for me -- you probably have to own a Ferrari to afford a few doppe there. The front view of the stone church with its tower reaching up to the blue sky really moved me. And how well kept is that beautiful large garden. The statue of the woodcutter shows how much the community appreciates hard work. No wonder the town is thriving. This was a wonderful trip, thank you again. I'll be waiting on the roadside go with you further up the Langkloof (or Baviaanskloof?). Keep safe!

I must tell you, I felt quite at home at Baardt-Bek, being a baardbek myself! 😁 But with our own Ferrari parking in front of Ferrari's Pub & Grill, I think I could while away a few hours there too! 🤣 We shall only venture into the Baviaanskloof on a future trip when we have a more appropriate vehicle for the terrain to explore that area. The Ferrari, oh sorry the Kwiddie, will just take too much punishment out there! It's on our list though! 🚙🤩

Hi guys another gem definitely a jewel fantastic bars you could have a pub crawl the butchers truck great I've been to the flying Dutch man in Amsterdam now the sweaty Dutch man in Kareedouw lol what an amazing church beautiful grounds a fitting place for John Vorster to rest and his wife. And also that hospital is named after him .the wood cutter statue and the old wagon loved them .Great to see this is a dairy cattle area and to prove the point a Frision cow crossing the road. Its great you got to the station looked like a big place the boxcars need some TLC they're brilliant the iron bridge reminds me of the aqueducts here in uk for canal boats thanks for taking me along cheerio till the next one

You're very fortunate having lived in SA and now living in the UK. You're in the perfect position to compare how some things, like the iron bridge for example, remind you of the aqueducts in the UK. Those must just be much older than everything in our country. 🇿🇦🇬🇧 Thanks for coming along again! 🚙😁

Congratulations on reaching your 14K subscribers 👏...Pieter Vorster was our neighbor, I recall that they went on holiday to the Kruger Park, contracted something and passed away on his return. What a beautiful and fitting place to be laid to rest with his parents and other family. The Church and the accompaning grounds are stunning!! An incredible town and yes it seems that they sure like to party. That "lounge" section inside Ferrari's pub looks like the ideal place to be when its cold and raining outside, with a hot "kaggel"😊 and some obs to warm the soul. 😂

What a journey! 🚙🥳 I remember you mentioning in a previous comment that you saw John Vorster walking in the garden nextdoor. 😊 The first thought that came into my mind, was that his son could've passed away from malaria contracted in Kruger. 🤷‍♂️🦟 The church and its grounds were abolutely immaculate, it was a pleasure to visit it and the graves. 💒🏛️

We didn't explore towns in the great detail as we do in later episodes. It was mostly about the backroads and nature still at that point and our channel has evolved a little since then.
