Our drive through the captivating coastal town of Kenton-on-Sea, where natural beauty unfolds at every turn. As we paused on the bridge spanning the Boesmans River, the picturesque view of the marina below was beautiful. Venturing further, the town's enchanting allure unfolded before our eyes. The harmonious fusion of lush greenery, undulating sand dunes, and the vast expanse of the ocean created a spectacle that surpassed imagination. One particular spot allowed us to venture tantalisingly close to the beach, providing uninterrupted views that left us in awe. Positioned between the Kariega River on one side, the Boesmans River on the other, and the mighty Indian Ocean on the third, Kenton-on-Sea is a treasure trove of natural splendour waiting to be explored. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #travelongravel #easternncape #kentononsea

Thanks for showing us the beautiful views around Kenton-on-Sea. I will never forget in the mid 1970's jumping on and off Oom van Rensburgs bakkie knocking on doors in Kenton , selling appels en pere. A little history about Kenton you might not be aware of. The famous James Hendry from Djuma has his parents retired here and he often frequents that restaurant to drink "applel juice ".😂🥃

It is beautiful indeed, there is zero doubt about that! 🚙🤩 Cool memory you have of selling apples and pears door-to-door back in the day! I had no idea about James Hendry and his parents, thanks for the info! 😁 I love apple juice too!

Oh my word, that place is stunning. You didn't need a drone view, with that view from the restaurant. SA is spectacular nature wise. What I love about it too, Kenton, is that it's not built up with houses one on top of the other. Really hope they keep it that way. Interesting facts about the birds, animals and insects from Sonia. ❤ it guys, thanks a stack.

Loved the bowling club tennis had a relaxed vibe the town lives up to its name bare foot capital the flora is stunning and sustains such an amazing amount of wildlife lovely place to park up and watch the boat being brought up the bank i could see myself sitting there the beaches and the dunes just outstanding and the drone footage was brilliant. Cherry on the cake the views from the restaurant unbelievable!! What a fantastic place no wonder the wise old farmers retire there most sun shine in the country. Yes, nothing like the Open Bowels Championship. That is n amazing tree! A tree will spread out to where its roots go, so that tree must have very spreading roots. Stunning drone footage! Hi you two! Kenton is definitely an exceptional town. What more can one ask for than the endless blue skies, endless blue sea and great white beaches? The greenery everywhere with those interesting trees with their twisted trunks and curvy branches was amazing. Even more so that gigantic tree, big enough to adorn three plots. Your music made the drone capture of the river mouth and the green living areas something majestic. I really loved it! Kenton is a fantastically beautiful place which we've never seen before this trip and it did not disappoint! 🌳🌊 It took me a while to convince my darling wife to do this travelling thing with me, but the bug has bitten good and solid, which gives me great joy! Her enthusiasm really knows no bounds and it's one of the many reasons that she's the perfect travelling companion! 🚙🥰 The Kwiddie has literally become an extension of my left arm with my right arm almost always out of the window. Sonia won't agree with you that I always listen to her intently, but I try! 😈 After a power outage of 23.5 hours in our area, we fortunately have power again, but the water damage in certain parts of our region is extensive! The big tree with all the roots is some species of wild fig. A lot of them start out as "stranglers" on other trees, although "passengers" might be a more apt name. The wild fig will eventually take over, and the host tree will ultimately die off, but they coexist for many years, often. Basically the same trick, only with rocks is pulled by the rock breakers. Stick a root into a little crack, and grow and expand it. (Given that they've been around here for literally hundreds of thousands of years, I wonder how many groups of bare rocks one sees owe their arrangement to some long-departed fig tree? Must be quite a few, although I suppose when the tree dies it rots away, and the cracks it forced open might fall closed again.) We had neighbours who had a big fig tree that attacked their house, so they had to cut it down. Fig trees and houses don't coexist happily. A house is too much like a nice rock to crack open, for a fig tree. There was a group of houses on the other side of the highway from us, once, whose owners all coexisted with an enormous Swamp Fig (I might have the name wrong). These have a tendency to "banyan" or to grow like the Wonderboom near Pretoria does. A tree finds some nice swamp to grow in, gets biggish, and drops down a new trunk from the end of one of its branches, and this happens again and again over a few hundred years maybe. In the end you get one tree with "a whole forest of trunks" that takes up maybe an acre of land in the old measurements. Sad thing about our "local Wonderboom" is that the original inhabitants of the houses moved on, crime levels increased radically (lots of murders and home invasions in the area eventually), and the new people cut down the trunks all of the original owners had allowed to grow into about three different yards, from a park outside. (That would've been fair enough, given how dangerous the place had become, but someone went into the park and cut down all the parts of the tree that grew outside of those yards, too. And then maybe worst of all, last time I visited the area for old times sake, and walked past, the houses where the "banyan tree" had been cut down were in ruins, with broken windows. Looks like the walls they put up didn't save them, in the end.) Damn! I was on a bright and cheery path there for a while. Sorry about meandering into a bit of a downer at the end of it all.
@DustBugsTravel

Interesting read. Another viewer also mentioned that the big, beautiful tree is a wild fig tree. We didn't specifically look for any damage caused by the trees, but none were evident to our ignorant eyes. 🤷🏻‍♂️ We just admire the beauty wherever we go and don't think too much about any consequences of that beauty. As with everything in life, I'm sure there are pros and cons though. 🌳💚
@sicko_the_ew
@sicko_the_ew Жыл бұрын
@@DustBugsTravel The trees just live. The idea of their doing damage is a purely human one (they become other living things that turn out inconvenient to us, basically). A few years ago I saw a wild fig (just a little one, getting started in life) that had rooted in the gutters up on top of the Durban City Hall. I'd guess it's been removed by now, but it's also possible that it's being left there by someone who would like it to damage the city hall - maybe to allow a lovely new one to be built. (By his cousin, maybe.) They're quite good at surviving just about anywhere, but you don't want them near your walls or foundations.

Aha dit voelde als een soort ‘Britannia rules the world’ episode, en een toepasselijke opmaat naar dit weekend van Trooping the colour als koning Charles naar verluid als vorst te paard in de stoet zal rijden. Lots of green, bowling and rugby on tv at Stanley’s restaurant, alles klopt. Last but not least, zo indrukwekkend die enorme boom die de gehele weg overspant, if only that tree could talk to us … 🌱🪴🌳😍
