The Stan looks very reminiscent of the Dunlop Green Flash. White is a lousy colour, though the reflective is a nice touch, but sticking 3M reflective tape onto the back of any shoe will make you more visible to motorised traffic. I’ll stick to my Keen Newport sandals (Mar-Oct), super grippy on my flat Wellgo BU087 pedals, the reflectors took a holiday some time ago, though they are replaceable. Though today I was wearing TNF GTX Hedgehogs.

I've been curious about this style of shoe when I was shopping for cleats. I got a pair of the shimano cheapies that work well, but they are dorky when I am riding long haul and stop for a snack, or in the grocery store, etc. The cleat grinds a bit on concrete. I wished they were more tennis shoe like. I also have a pair of Adidas FIVETEN mountain bike shoes I wear when trail riding in the woods, and they are also awesome shoes. They have a super soft grippy bottom full of circles like these you showed here, just minus the cleat mounts. (they're for flat spikey mountain bike pedals). Anyway... thanks for the video, I may have to pick up a pair of this style once my shimano's wear out.

I think design and performance are no issue with these shoes but longevity is. As always, Adidas uses their almost loose-grain leather covered with a thick layer of plastic which will make this shoe wear faster than a traditional, half decently constructed cycling shoe like the Shimano AM5 or AM7. I don't get the value of a stiff shoe. Even in stiff shoes, if you focus on where and how you touch it, you will inevitably conclude that it's still just your feet that are carrying the force and not the sole. In most cases, the only thing the sole will achieve is making your feet painful, stiff and atrophied. It's not me making this up; this has actually been well researched. The only thing that actually matters from an efficiency POV is that your soles should not compress (like running shoes do); obviously that really sucks up power. Bike shoe manufacturers totally ignoring such facts and basing entire product lines on nonsense leaves me no choice but to not believe anything they say or make... 😅 By the way, the same goes for the foot position that's enforced by such shoes, which makes no sense either. If given large enough flat pedals and suitable shoes, just about all cyclists will eventually start riding midfoot and be perfectly efficient. After some pioneering by Pedaling Innovations supporting that for flat pedals, we now finally have a clipless shoe/pedal manufacturer (Ekoi) that's slowly moving the foot in a direction that makes sense and is science based instead of based on the myth that sells best (though even they appear to be very conservative in how far forward they move the foot). Nevertheless, cycling will probably remain the most myth-based sport of all time for quite some time... 🤣
