@@Oysterblade84 I’ve never understood how anyone can defend Streets of Rage 3s music. I also absolutely love Yuzo Koshiro. In fact, he’s probably my favorite game composer….but the streets of rage 3 soundtrack is really bad. It’s just a cacophony of random noises. I’ve heard him say that it was produced by a computer program he wrote, which was some kind of attempt at dabbling in artificial intelligence or something like that. But as your computer algorithm starts cobbling together awful noises, don’t you stop and say to yourself, “hey, this gives me a headache. Maybe my 1993 desk top PC that came preloaded with solitaire doesnt have the capacity of a celebrated human music composer?” People claim it’s an acquired taste. I don’t know what they’re talking about….is some dude out there listening to this sound at work? The way I listen to streets of rage 1 and 2? Is he deaf?!

@@creativecatproductions I hear you and I too adore Yuzo Koshiro's works so i'm not pissing on the man, I especially love his Master System and Game Gear stuff that he did, but SOR3 is jusr horrible and I too can't understand all the hype it gets. I only compare SOR3 to Jewel Master and vice versa because despite the different genres they are both on the Mega Drive/Genesis.

One of the best videogame soundtrack ever. So perfect, it reminds me a lot of Dream Theater, in particular of the album "Images and Words", each time I listen to it and I listen to the Dream Theater song Metropolis Pt.1 "The Miracle and the Sleeper" I think consecutively to this OST and precisely to the track "Jewel Master". may be this soundtrack may appear a few insipid to those who discover these musics without having nostalgia of the game and have not played it. Personally I didn't dislike because I love 16-bit sounds, but I don't find the melodies as beautiful and memorable as the other productions of Motoaki Takenouchi like shining force or Landstalker (perhaps simply because I haven't played Jewel master and these compositions are not planted deep in my head ? but for me that's makes the difference between a good soundtrack and a great one : when you haven't played the game but you think the ost is fabulous anyway. That's not the case here for me).

The title track ''Jewel Master'' is quite possibly the greatest Mega Drive music track ever produced on the system and it sums up the system as a whole, it also puts Streets Of Rage 3 to shame.
@Oysterblade844 жыл бұрын
No, Streets Of Rage 3 is trash period! They used an automated system that produced a bunch of random noise that did nothing but make your ears bleed, Koshiro and Kawashima went way too far trying to create digital noise. It's like no one has the heart to tell Koshiro that his music stinks in SO3 because everybody hails him as a god. Jewel Master was carefully composed and arranged with such care and thought behind it and it shows in how easy on the ears it is and how wonderful the melody plays out it's structure. Sounds like something from Nightwish or Dream Theater.
@ManiacalForeigner4 жыл бұрын
@@Oysterblade84 I can understand not liking it, (especially if you're not used to genres like prog rock or acid techno, and techniques like odd time signatures and non-conventional harmonies) but it can't be denied just how ahead of its time the Streets of Rage 3 soundtrack truly was. You wouldn't hear sounds like that even in IDM for another half a decade or so. Do you also think Aphex Twin is just "a bunch of random noise"? I would highly suggest you try and give it another listen. The first time I listened to it, I hated it, but the more I revisited it, the more my appreciation for it has grown. And if you just can't handle the more off-the-wall experimental stuff, the tracks written by Kawashima are more in line with "traditional" hard techno: nothing too weird going on, but it's still awesome. (Nobody will ever convince me The Poets I is anything but a masterpiece of electronic metal)
@SeaOfVomit3 жыл бұрын
@@Oysterblade84 You're out of your mind...Both are masterpieces. I'm not even an electronic guy (though I do love abrasive music), but what they were doing with SoR3 was bonkers. As the other guy, I see not liking it sonically (cause that's totally understandable, heh), but if you can bare with it enough and listen to the layers & harmonies, then you'll truly appreciate it.
@Oysterblade843 жыл бұрын
@@SeaOfVomit SOR3's soundtrack is garbage. FM synthesis was meant to sound as realistic as possible by mimicking real musical instruments, thats why Jewel Master sounds so freakin' good because it sounds like a real metal band doing symphonic rock, much like Night Wish. SOR3 does a poor job at recreating already existing techno, trance music. It amazes me how they used an automated system to produce alot of the ost, my 2 year old daughter could compose better music than that. To be fair though it was Motohiro Kawashima that composed all the bad music in the game, Yuzo Koshiro was more into the production side of it.
@SeaOfVomit3 жыл бұрын
@@Oysterblade84 Nah, completely disagree, but you're entitled to your opinion. SoR3 music is brilliant and has the better OST, but Jewel Master's titled track in particular is better than anything than on the former, I'll give you that...but one man's paradise is another man's hell I suppose. As Nightwish's music makes my ears bleed personally lol. Have a good day.
