Hey Dustin, I was already lost about 25 seconds into your video. How dose one find a humble 2x4 I looked all over and I couldn't find one humble enough. If you don't mind explaining me your process in picking out lumber. So it's humble and enthusilactic. You're assistance is really appreciated.

This is a fantastic box and your instructions are perfectly clear and easy to follow - awesome job! Once question though - why use a "spring block" instead of simply attaching the spring to the rear wall of the compartment? Wouldn't that make it easier to build as well as gain some more space in the secret drawer?

Hey Dustin, the whole darn project is a winner, including the voice over. The basic build ( price was right ) was well shown and someone could do the same with cherry or what ever fancy hard wood they wanted. The color is what attracted me to the video. I like it ( but that's just me ) . I got a kick out of your editing. Great job all around.
@dpmakestuff9 жыл бұрын
+billfromelma Absolutely! I prefer working with hardwood, but It was nice to know if I made a miscut, I wouldn't waste a bunch of expensive wood. I'm really happy with the colour too! thanks for the kind words.

I love the birdie flip about CNC haters! Most people don't have any of these tools but you might have somebody close who has them, professional builder or another hobbyist who can lend tools or workshop for the public (or for members only). There are options. I just recently found out that there is a workshop near me with all the tools for a 10€-40€/moth cost. Before I had no knowledge of this kind of places and had a thought about workshops with memberships. Seems that someone had that thought already. And it seems that most people who whine in the internet haven't even TRYED to find solutions (applies with almost every topic and every discussion). Only options seems to be just buying everything from a shop for a full price of TOO MUCH $$$. Keep it up and advertise your local workshop or other options! Your secret compartment boxes have been cool so far. I might check other vidyas later.. :)

I just watched a couple of videos and I really like the way you do the fast forward parts. The sound while going fast is not annoying and is actually kinda funny (unlike many other fast forward videos I've seen). You show just enough to see what you're doing and then skip to the next part by cutting bits, that gives a bit of a stop motion feel to it, which I really like. Keep up the good work, both on creating cool and awesome woodwork aswell as the editing of your videos.

I find it funny how "snobbish" people get about using pine. I happen to love the look of pine. No I wouldn't use it on everything but there are very good examples of every kind of furniture with pine being used. For a box? Pine is great. Anyway love the project.

Dustin, I was thinking if I decide to build another one of these I'll skip the metal catch altogether and just use pins to catch the drawer. it will give more room inside the drawer and you won't need to lift the inside panel completely out. The pins will hold the drawer tight to the spring and you could use 2 pins to prevent it from racking slightly in the opening.
@dpmakestuff9 жыл бұрын
You are 100% correct. I was mid build on my 3rd one when I realized that too. I think it's more fun to get the click when it locks in place. It's worth the little extra effort.
