The 5.7L Toyota 3UR-FE was the best gas engine I ever had in a truck. The supercharger kit made that engine a beast.

Agreed. I have a Sequoia and use it to tow a lot. My only complaint is the gas mileage. Empty or loaded it's not great. 😂 On the plus side I have done nothing but oil and filters and so far one coolant swap (after 5 years) and one transmission flush. I still have the original spark plugs.

The 1UR had FE and FSE versions. The FE in Lexus cars made 322 hp, the FSE 385 hp. That's a 20% performance bump. The 3UR with D4-S would make 455 hp! And because it's direct injection it wouldn't even hurt fuel economy. Now we have this hybrid turbo crap that's way more complicated than a 3UR-FSE would ever be.

1uz is also aircraft certified for light plane use which is a 60 to 80 percent throttle test for 8 hrs so not only are they reliable toyota got them certified to fly litterally

@illeyez505the 1uz didn’t come in trucks the 2uz did and anyone who’s claims the 1uz to be junk has lost all credibility. There’s plenty of Lexus cars sitting at around 400,000 miles before the engine even gave up not to mention the couple who have made it to a million miles on it. I had a 3uz gs430 which is very similar to the 1uz and that car had 266,000 miles on it before I sold it. It never let me down and I took it on multiple 12hr road trip.

Sounds like an amazing idea, My older brother has 2 Toyota Tundras with a 4.7l V8, He recently bought a 2010 Nissan Titan 2WD with a 5.6l V8 engine.

I have seen those Nissan trucks crap out suddenly several times. I do believe some people abuse their trucks though. But I am noy joking. I have seen the Nissan V8 truck engines experience catastrophic failures at very low milage. But These days Nissans seem to end up in the possession of people that abuse and do not take care of their vehicles.

@@miguelquazar883 you're right about some people that own a Nissan they don't take care of them. I have a titan with 400k miles, used as a chase vehicle for off-road racing. Taken care of, I trust my life with it as people would with their Toyota's. 400 hp and getting 18 mpg with a manual transmission.

The 390hp VK50VE powering the 09-14 Infiniti FX50 was legit. I believe it was the 2nd or 3rd quickest SUV at time of launch behind the Porsche Cayenne Turbo and SRT8 Grand Cherokee.

Insanely reliable, thanks for the vid, I've had the same 1UZ for 20 yrs . It's in my 92 SC400 it's bullet proof. Just ran a compression test on the 30 yr old engine and it still has near perfect tolerances. Had the ECU checked and still works. I would never sell this car

Believe the Toyota Lexus 1UR-FE V8 non DI in the GXs and base Tundras are also just as reliable as the 5.7 Yota engine. I have one. Lower output but stone reliable. Great vid. But yes, the LFA has the highest output of a Lexus production car as mentioned in another comment….

Hartley in New Zealand pushes their build NA VK56 to 900hp and 10.000rpm. Performance wise Toyota doesn't come close they said.

@@WieDrDerJonge I do agree the vk56 is a better engine but Hartley can really build engines. Read on a forum where a member was explaining all the technologies and design choices that nissan did with the vk56, he also said a fully built engine with a stock block could take 2500 bhp.

Hmmm... Not a JDM V8 expert, but I never realised/paid attention to the fact that a 3UR-FE uses a clutch fan. Wonder what kind of power gains can be had by switching to an electric fan setup? My 03 Lightning came factory with a clutch fan, but many convert to an electric fan setup out of a newer F150 and they get decent power gains from it.

I have a 2011 FX50S VK50VE with 390hp and 369tq. Runs 13.4 on the 1/4 mile on 21” wheels. Some are running high 12’s only with a tube and simple bolt-ons. There is a G37 coupe with a VK50VE running 700whp+ on 10psi rear mount turbo, stock internals(130k+ miles), with plenty to f room to go over 1,000hp. I think nothing touches the VK engine series as far as Japanese v8’s go.

You are wrong on the hydraulic lifters. I have 1995 Toyota Tercel with 5E-FE at 430000 miles I never had to touch the valve shims. Toyota DOHC motors from the 1990's if never low on oil or hot you never had to adjust or change the shims

The 2ur is not the most powerful engine Lexus has ever offered…I’m guessing you forgot about the v10 used in the LFA. Even with all the improvements over the years the lfa v10 makes a lot more hp than the 2ur does.

Cadillac has done that with the “North Star” V8. And the late 1999 Ford Taurus SHO had one, too. That arrangement was mainly just for front wheel drive vehicles.
