This video is about a the first time Dusty Slay ever had a car accident. It's a fun story. I'm pretty sure there is no moral to the story and no lessons were learned, but we all lived to tell the tale.

My first car I got in 1991 was a 1978 Delta 88. Got it from an old lady who drove it once a week to the store. Only had 55k miles on it and was cherry. That thing was a beast. Big as a boat and drove like one. Red pleather seats and interior, 8 track, spoke wheels, half vinyl top..full luxury. You.could have fit a hot tub in the trunk. But man that thing was easy to work on, reliable. If I armor all'd the seats and took a corner too fast I'd have to hold on for dear life or slide across to the passenger side. I traded it in for something more fuel efficient after a couple of years but I wish I still had it today...I'd pimp it out to cruise around in.

I knew exactly what car that is. I drove one in high school that I got from my great grandparents. I ended up rolling it on a gravel road then my cousin demo derbied it. And my brother at about the same age you were did exactly what you did in our old station wagon but he drove it into our old shed instead. Love your stuff, it hits pretty close to home.

@@DustySlay I also grew up in a trailer park. Remember how each unit had a propane tank back then ? My little brother got behind the wheel of my Mom's saturn while she was getting ready, and with me strapped into the backseat he proceeded to drive straight into the tank. Thankfully, we were poor so the propane tank was empty.

Just got turned onto your stuff, Dusty. I grew up in the Ozarks in the middle of nowhere, so I can relate. Except my parents bought a Geo Metro. It was the opposite of a boat. We hit a deer in that car going 60 mph one time and the deer just got up and ran away. Completely unfazed.

Too funny...back in about 1978 I drove a shortbed ford 4x4 with a 10" lift kit on 42" tires. My best friend and I were out hunting on our family ranch in west texas, after a week long rain. We got so drunk that the next thing we remember is waking up in the bed of my truck the next morning. I went to hop out to go take a leak when I discovered the truck was parked in a pond, in about 6 feet of water. We couldn't drive out because in west Texas we have this clay that, when wet, has less friction than ice. I had differential lockers front and back, all 4 big aggressive mud terrain tires were just spinning. I swam to shore and walked to the fire department, they were nice enough to come haul us out with their 6x6 and a winch. The chief asked what we were doing (my best friend and I had been on the department since turning 14, the chief had known us both since birth) so I replied "what do you mean...you've never been pond camping?" From that time until my buddy's death at 35, pond camping was a thing. I took girls pond camping, it was damned romantic, with the waves lapping quietly against the fender wells...

Oh lord! I saw the pictures of the car and immediately thought of the 89 88 royale brouhgam I had when me and my wife first got married. I had not so good credit and my wife had no credit so my wife's grandaddy cosigned on the 800 dollar loan to buy it. This thing had a dent on the front passenger side corner of the roof of it and the windshield had a nasty spiderweb crack from the same area where a large branch had fallen on it, but man, it was great. It was the first car we ever bought together and that beaut brings back memories * dammit, this is my edit after watching more, I lived in Tallapoosa Georgia when I was a kid. This story really touched me. Your awesome mr dusty!

this is so familiar to me! when i was about 4-5 years old, we were at my grandma’s farm up near Osh Kosh, Wisconsin. very similar thing where the family minivan was parked up at the top of the driveway, which inclined down to the county highway. me and a family friend around the same age were playing in the car, got it into neutral somehow, and started coasting down the hill and right into a big pine tree on the front lawn. my dad reminds me to this day that the repair bill for the car was $3,400.

My mom had an Olds 88 (I think) maybe a 98. But it had crank dadgum windows. But the crank went backwards to EVERY other car ever. Backwards for down, forward for up. Had we gone into a pond, I would have been a casualty of panic and counter-intuition. If you’ve got reverse crank windows, you’re not havin a good time.

@@DustySlay, I’m also familiar with that move. My first apartment, the handle for the shower valve was a pair of Irwin vise-grips. The sad part is, I was already a plumber at that point, but a lazy one when off the clock. Thanks for all the entertainment, man. I only heard you for the first time maybe three years ago. I'm a great swimmer too . I'm born and raised in Florida and we loved jumping off bridges and swimming in the most dangerous places for rip currents. I never got it why they always put up signs warning people about dangerous currents and not swimming there because I thought that should be on the tourist pamphlets to draw more tourists. Like fuck adventure island water park ! Hit this bridge at a strong out going tide and enjoy

@@DustySlay got it, same here, lived with my violent dad for a while, he was gone all the time, either at work or chasing whatever, I literally raised myself for a while, stint at grandmother's, some with mother, as you well know can be messed up, but looking back on it, doesn't it make for the best comedy? When friends get together they always try to get me to tell stories about childhood for a good laugh, like the time school bus was very late, and it was in the twenties, I was mabe 10 got to school and principal was waiting on us, nice guy, didn't believe in corporal punishment, well till he met me, he told us it wasn't fair for us to have to wait on bus that long, but bus wouldn't wait on us one minute if we were not at bus stop, well, I liked his thought process, and made up my mind to boycott the school bus system, had all school day to make plans, when bus dropped us off at end of day, I told all the other kids I was going to mr Hancock's home, he was over the school's busing program and just happened to live in our subdivision, two houses down from bus stop, he was a grumpy old man who walked with a cane, mabe late fifties, real oldschool, stern type little crowd of the other kids followed me, I thought they were with me but in hindsight I realize they just wanted to see the upcoming event, I knocked on door he opened said door and kinda have growled, what do you want?! I told him we were boycotting the bussing system and why, he first got my full name and then started screaming at me, said I didn't have to worry about ever riding the bus again, and told me to get the hell out of his yard, other kids had already ran off, I started walking back to our house thinking he was not near as understanding as principal was, got home told mom she may have to start taking me to school and why, she went ballistic, started screaming, don,don, come in here and see what you're son has done this time!! So after I explained what happened, he went to raising hell, and said, who the hell do you think you are, a white rosa parks? Ahhhhhh, those were the days. Sorry about the long rant, love your comedy, take care.

@@DustySlay 40 feet? That’s only about 13 yards. There wouldn’t be any room to take any strokes and actually swim. And two lengths at 13 yards would only take about 13-15 seconds. Pools are normally 25 yards, 25 meters, or 50 meters. BTW, thanks for responding. I just found your work and love it! Do you ever go to Virginia Beach? I would love to go to a show.

@@DustySlay You can’t really swim in creeks. Not deep enough for long enough stretches. There’s rivers, but I’m only ever comfortable swimming in rivers if there’s large rapids or if it’s on the mouth of a bay or ocean. I personally always prefer oceans or bays for open water. I’m much more comfortable around sharks and rip currents than anything found in lakes. Lakes and any slow moving river freak me out!
