I love Dusty. I grew up listening to her music. I'm 74 years old and never get tired of listening to our baby boomer music and artists from the 50's, 60's and 70s and beyond. I love music. I have a very large vinyl record album collection. I leave for my children to inherit when I'm gone!

Dusty Springfield was a classic. "Son of a Preacher Man" is a signature song for her, in my view. But this one is definitely close, and she delivers it just right. Powerful voice!

Dusty's voice is one in a million for me, her tone, her choice of vocal lines, her dynamics it's all there and you will never hear a bland performance from her because she worked so hard to perfect her craft and her songs til they became artistic masterpieces. RIP Dusty luv ya xx

To me, the greatest Dusty Springfield song will always be the Bacharach/David composition, "The Look of Love". But everything she sang was gold as well. Dusty was often labeled a torch singer. which is often considered the female version of the crooner.

She is from that era of the late 1960's to early 1970's when there were such British artists like Dusty, Petula Clark, Lulu and others, although Lulu was more in the Pop Rock category! They were the Adele of that era I suppose! Those songs were so meaningful and emotional, they just get to you in so many profound levels! Later!

One of the backup singers is Kiki Dee who did a duet with Elton John years later with "Don't Go Breaking My Heart." Also, Dusty originally heard this sung in Italian and then sat on it for about a year before releasing her English language version in 1966.

Great voice, strong and clear, with good range. One of the top female singers of the '60's for sure. She put feelings and emotions into her songs - soulful.

The song was originally called Io Che Non Vivo (Senza Te) by Pino Donaggio and was perfirmed in the 1965 San Remo Song Festival. It took Dusty a year to record it because she needed to find a new set of lyrics,or at least an english translation. In the end she nagged Vikki Wickham, booker of acts for the legendary Redifusion Television 1960s pop show Ready Steady Go,to write the lyric. When dining with Simon Napier-Bell (manager of The Yardbirds, then later Mark Bolan, and for a short time Wham) Vikki got him to help her write the lyrics. During recording Dusty complained there was too much echo on her voice. The recording engineer recommended the nearby stairwell would solve the problem. So Dusty stood halfway up the stairs, leaning over the bannister to sing into the microphone hanging from the ceiling in front of her. A notorious perfectionist Dusty took 59 takes, with take 53 the one released.

I've done some looking around to find the reactors that I like the most, and I'm putting you in my top five, possibly top three. I like you because you are sweet, likable, and intelligent. Also, you and a small handful of other reactors do not disturb the songs by pausing or talking over them. Thank you for that! I know that reactors can do basically what they want to do because it's their show, but it really is frustrating. Thank you, again, for using an m.o. that I can enjoy!

"They" say Dusty used to agonized for days over how to sing every syllable and she took up endless hours of studio time for one song. I don't know if it's true but her voice for a song is amazing. The song, if we listen to the lyrics, is kind of racy.. "you don't have to stay forever, just be close at hand." Like, girl! I'm a little bit older than you and I grew up hearing my family play this music when I was young so I can never do a reaction video to many of these classics but it's fun watching your channel.

Say Angela, listening to this reminds me of when I was only about 12 years old 1963-64 and Beatlemania was fast changing the face of popular music and rock n' roll. That was an era of London's Carnaby Street. British accents everywhere, high fashon, Twiggy, mens slim three-piece suits with cuban heel boots, new British movie stars and snappy English sports cars. I hope you will consider doing a deep dive into the music stars of that era besides the British rock n' roll from the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, etc. For starters try pop-folk groups such as The Searchers, Peter & Gordon, Chad & Jeremy, The Seekers ... and the myriad of cute female solo singers alongside Dusty.

Goose bumps every time. What a *singer* she was! As far as the word "crooner" is concerned, I don't think it applies to her at all on this song. The whole point of crooning is it's singing *quietly* - and clearly this is not that! I believe this term was coined in the early-ish days of recording, when microphone technology had improved, and the cannier singers realised that they didn't have to bellow into the mic to register on the recording. Bing Crosby is often credited with being one of the first singers who realised that if he moved right up to the mic, he could sing softly and it would sound great - and different to what had gone before. I know "crooner" is more often applied to men than women, but I don't think it's intrinsically a sex-specific term. Dusty could croon with the best of them, as on The Look Of Love, where her voice rarely rises above a whisper, to gorgeous effect of course. Erm, thanks for coming to my TED talk...

I am not sure Dusty was a SIREN. Kind of an odd name to give to someone. Great song though. Classic. I like and understand how you are reacting to these songs. The lyrics of these songs you react to are like fire and water. Depends on whether you like them or not. Rarely do I take songs literally. Most songs are written, recorded and played for purely nothing but money. There are just some that do it better than others. Peter Cetera comes to mind. A great singer. I really do not believe one word of what he sings about. It's a money thing. That's it. When Chicago got inducted in the Rock Hall, he didn't even show up. I love Dusty though. A great singer and person.
