This was originally an Italian song from 1965 by Pino Donaggio called “Io che non vivo( senza te)” that is “I who don’t live without you” which was a huge hit. Dusty was in the audience at the 1965 Sanremo Italian music festival(which is still being held annually) when Pino sang it and she fell in love with the song even though she didn’t understand the Italian lyrics and she had a friend write some English lyrics to the melody. The rest is history!

Mary ( Dusty was stage name) was incredibly shy and suffered stage fright before every performance, she was also very short sighted and refused to wear glasses as not being able to see the crowd properly was a positive for her nerves

This is how we get SO hooked on you men; we'll even beg! We're not proud! 🙂This was one of the most dramatic and atmospheric Songs to come out of the 60s. It started out as an Italian Song - believe it or not! This always makes me recall the foggy nights and dim street lamps of Britain when this was Number One way back in 1966 - the kind of atmospheric nights we don't get anymore... It's such a beautiful Song that begins dramatic and swells into this great crescendo! If you think the Song is theatrical - you need to see a performance she did of this Song which was really theatrical! Do a search for it!

Baby Dolls!! This is Dusty's biggest fan! (So I say! )They have a youtube video of her live with this song- she's fabulous! She cuts her eyes at her backup singers once when one was off key or something! It's so cool! That SOUND was the "wall of sound" developed by Phil Spector (who was married to the great Ronnie Spector -The "Ronnie" from Eddie Money's song, Take Me Home Tonight". He sings say"Just Like Ronnie say, Be My Little Baby". That was HER biggest hit. Phil Spector went crazy and killed someone in his old age so Ronnie was smart to get away from him. Dusty's live song is under Dusty Springfield- You Don't Have To Say You Love Me. She looks GREAT in this one! Please review that one for me!😘😘

Dusty( Mary Katherine O'Brien)was one of the greatest singers ever. Was inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame shortly after her passing. Very many good songs, I only Wanna be With You, A Brand New Me, Wishing and Hoping As Linda Ronstadt did covers as good or better than the original singer. This British female artist had so much soul, and her voice was top notch. She died a couple years ago I think. I was a little kid in the mid 60s when Dusty was on top of the music world. Dusty was a real badass. She was openly Bi, leaning strongly towards Lesbian......IN THE 1960'S! She was brave, trust me, I was around back then and that kind of stuff was swept under the welcome mat! Of course, the rest of us were busy with burning bras, concussion due to knockin' on that glass ceiling with our hard heads, civil rights, the sexual revolution, being allowed to open a bank account without your father or husband signing for it. We had to wait until 1971 or 1972 for that one. And of course, the assassinations, JFK IN 63, MLK and Bobby Kennedy in 68. Anyway, we were pretty focused in a lot of directions, but that didn't take away any of the guts and bravery it took, every step, every day!
