Mary Isobel Catherine Bernadette O'Brien OBE, known professionally as Dusty Springfield, was an English singer. Springfield's solo career began in late 1963 with the upbeat pop record "I Only Want to Be with You" - a UK no. 4 hit, and the first of her six transatlantic Top 40 hits in the 1960s, along with "Stay Awhile" (1964), "All I See Is You" (1966), "I'll Try Anything" (1967) and the two releases now considered her signature songs: "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me" (1966 UK no. 1/US no. 4) and "Son of a Preacher Man" (1968/69 UK no. 9/US no. 10). The latter features on the 1968 pop and soul album Dusty in Memphis, one of Springfield's defining works. With her distinctive mezzo-soprano sound, she was a popular singer of blue-eyed soul, pop and dramatic ballads, with French chanson, country, and jazz also in her repertoire. During her 1960s peak, she ranked among the most successful British female performers on both sides of the Atlantic. Her image - marked by a peroxide blonde bouffant/beehive hairstyle, heavy makeup (thick black eyeliner and eye shadow) and evening gowns, as well as stylised, gestural performances - made her an icon of the Swinging Sixties.

To me (and so many others) she was 'the' female voice of the 60s and was always so OTT glamorous in the way only Dusty could carry off. Her incredible voice was also admired by many American soul singers and compared to Aretha Franklin. Brilliant singer and strong minded, beautiful lady.

A number of people have done articles on Dusty's life but yours has to be a masterpiece. It sounds so hollow to just say thank you for bringing your skills to bere Your work is so respectful and circumvents things that just don't need highlighting, a heartfelt thanks. I wouldn't presume to speak for Dusty in that special place she is in but if she has heard you, I'm sure she would be as impressed as I and others have been. Thank you.

Hello Raymond, I'll say you factual when I read you're comments I got a shiver it was so kind of you to say that. When I did this video I was in two minds because Dusty's grave had already been done by other channels. But I enjoyed the documentaries on Dusty so much that I couldn't turn it away and everything I said was exactly what I felt. There was something about her beyond her voice that drew you to her and I felt sad she didn't find more happiness her friendships were very rewarding with all those that worked with her she was loved by many close to her. Great thanks to you Alan

Awe, Dusty Springfield, what a beautiful Talent. RIP Miss Springfield, never to be forgotten. Thank you for this one❤️. I’m married nearly 40 years and my hubby took me to Paris for a little honeymoon. He took me by surprise one day and walked me right over the city to Pere Lachaise Cemetery where an idol of mine was buried, Jim Morrison! Took me until I was 50 to get to my real heros grave at Gracelands. Always find cemeteries such peaceful places as my mammy always told me “the dead don’t hurt you, it’s the living that does that” ❤️❤️❤️

Hi TDN Well wonderful story! I' how lovly. ve seen Jim's grave on videos there's a queue. Usually it's so popular but if there's one that I could visit I would love to see gGacelands and Elvis ,did you know that he was buried elsewhere but they were going to rob the body so they decided it needed to be secure in the grounds of his house. Thank you. I'll watch out for you. Alan

@@MotorHomeBeepBeep Yes Alan I read that Elvis’s body is somewhere else. I know he was buried with his mum in another cemetery but it too was the subject of grave robbing I hope you get to go Alan, it’s worth the wait. At Jim’s grave there were so many people singing and talking, I met Chinese, American, French, a whole melting pot of people. I just love how music brings folk together. My husband took some great photos of me at the graveside but unfortunately I cut his head off every one I took of him. You imagine that for the last 40 years he has never let me forget it😂😂. ❤️

Hello Wating Boy, yes she's one of those that you wonder what she would have produced if she could have just lived longer. She was on the up. But thank you for a great comment Alan

Hello Alan. Great to see you. What a wonderful video report. I didn't know the problems Dusty had experienced and gone through, so your report was an eye opener. She was such a wonderful singer and put such feeling into every note. She's no doubt on the entertainment committee up in Heaven now, and singing to those who gather around her. God Bless her. Than you Alan, for this really great report, and also for the peep at the houses around the area where some of Dusty's ashes were buried. You're so right - they really are quaint! Aw anyhoo .... it's past my bedtime here, so I'll sign off. Sending my best regards ~ Cobs.

Hello, Cobs H if you notice I keep mentioning the documentaries because when I watch a few on Dusty I did truly feel quite smitten by her. She was really loved by all the people close to her but she had so many problems with her depression and her sexuality/career which wouldn't allow her to be herself publicly. And I felt slightly emphatic that she never thought she worthy of any attention. EG I think before I publish this I thought that 17 minutes of my film is maybe too long for anybody just representing another person singularly. But overall people seem so far to like them so, so far that's great because I enjoy really doing them with a passion. But Cob you have given me so much encouragement, thought, and suggestions! truly Thank you ever so much, You are a star in my text :-) Alan much love. good night.

Met her on a Dutch TV music show called Countdown in 1990, when I was working for the group The Chimes. Definitely a star, everyone gravitated toward her and had a short chat. Nice lady! Good job beep beep
