Man, I first want to apologize for being so wordy, my respect for dusty and the crew couldn’t be any higher. I’ve been watching all of these videos like three times, it’s not just that it’s satisfying watching y’all work, but the videos are always great, the quality of the work is top shelf, and there’s smiles on faces, you all have found a great passion for a true calling, I’ve said it before but thank you very much for sharing your journey with us all. I care take in Alaska outside Fairbanks and thanks to watching you all have fun and be great at what you do I’ve been able to work on this terrible cabin my mother refuses to leave, albeit my work is shoddy and at best I would consider it just “bandaids” I’ve been able to extend how long she gets to remain home where she wants while fighting her diagnosis, and it’s genuinely been from watching these videos. You have my utmost respect and admiration sir please keep up the amazing things you do 🫡

You admire the guy handling the insulation with no Safety glasses to keep it from getting in his eyes, or mask to keep from breathing in any stray fiberglass fibers? Wow... I got a piece of fiberglass insulation in my eye once, and i wasnt even touching any of it. It felt like I had a knife in my eye for about a week. Yeah, not protecting yourself is really something to admire.... so manly to risk damaging your eyes and lungs...

No insulation in the ceiling?
@virtuous-slothАй бұрын
It would be put in after the ceiling is up, since the ceiling is what would be holding the insulation in place.
@Mike_ReganАй бұрын
@virtuous-sloth But they've already put up the vapour barrier. It would have to go behind that, like the walls.
@virtuous-slothАй бұрын
@@Mike_Regan Above the ceiling is an attic (between the ceiling and the roof) and that is an open space with insulation put on the bottom, on top of the ceiling. You can usually walk around in the attic, except that there is no floor, so you have to walk on the ceiling joists. So what they'll do is access the attic via a hatch in the ceiling and probably spray insulating material (dry cellulose, wet cellulose) or lay down batts like the ones used in the walls.

It got blown in later

Great video. That’s a good size shop! Would you do a video with a cost breakdown? I’m curious to know as I’m starting my shop next year. One question, why did you choose a post build over standard stud construction?
@dustylumberco27 күн бұрын
Sorry it's not my practice to talk about the cost to build. To me money and investments are a personal thing and I don’t share them publicly. Also pricing with be very different all over the country and world so it is always best to price it out locally.
@dustylumberco27 күн бұрын
This is one of the options here for post frame buildings. They also do concrete or perma columns but I decided for my location and situation I would go with the pads and gravel
@andreasesau297927 күн бұрын
@@dustylumberco Fair enough, I agree.
@singe81Ай бұрын
Those post holes were deep, but I was surprised concrete wasn’t used, rather just loose gravel. I appreciate concrete was later poured as flooring anyway. Even so, is that normal practice in Canada? Ps. Thanks for the video!
@dustylumbercoАй бұрын
This aggregate is self consolidating and gets more and more compact over time. It allows water to drain away. The post protectors the top protect the wood (which is also pressure treated) from being exposed to any water and I will have concrete around the whole outside of the building to shed all water away and the posts are 6’ in the ground. This building is solid and not going anywhere 👍
@daveperkins2927Ай бұрын
Why is the mezzanine floor constructed so robustly, what do you plan to keep up there? Did you insulate the roof space? Nice workshop. 👍
@dustylumbercoАй бұрын
The roof did get insulation blown in. I haven't fully decided what will be on the mezzanine yet, but I want it to be strong enough for many possibilities. I have a different woodwork shop I’ll be building but it’s more complex and will take longer and I was running out of time before winter so I I chose to build this one first which is built as a machine shop/ auto restoration shop and I will move the woodwork equipment in here while I build the other one

Cheap flooring....I'd have used Advantech. That shit lasts forever. I once dunked a 4 in. by 4 in. piece in a 5 gallon bucket. I weighted it down and kept it submerged for a month. IT DIDN'T WARP SWELL OR ROT IN ANYWAY SHAPE OR FASHION. It looks like O.S.B. board but it's made a different completely water proof glue. Oh and it takes a lot of fuel to get it to catch fire. So it's also a safer product. Not hatin'...
