It's fake . The Nissan is not being put into 4x4 until it's been left spinning the wheels for a while . In 4x4 it will only spin for a second and them climb out . Nissan X-trail and Subaru have the best traction control systems .

From videos it looks like tyre diameter on x-trail is smaller. Is it to spec on test vehicle? Smaller tyre sits deeper between rollers. Angle to climb out is then steeper and vehicle will find it more difficult to climb out. Both vehicles perform well for real life situations. It looks like Mitsubishi front and rear tyres rotate at different speeds. Is there some bias built into Mitsubishi system?

Outlander wheels indeed looks bigger but that's not a difference which make any major influence on how they sit in rollers, probably ~1 mm. Mitsubishi system is using the same parts as Nissan, the biggest difference is in software.

Manufacturers should more clearly indicate "4wd lock" to mean center lock only as it has nothing to do with front or rear axle lock (as the cars do not have those). In my mind "4wd lock" stands for all four wheels spinning with same speed mechanically locked center + rear + front and even one wheel with grip can move the car. Videos demonstrate well how far away the cars are from such rear 4wd performance...

In xtrails instruction manual it is said that 4wd Lock means that system doesn't wait till front axle slips to enable rear axle unlike the Auto mode. If your speed will be more than 5 km/h the system will automaticly switch to 4wd Auto mode, but the Lock will stay enabled what means that you don't have to switch it on after you pull over. If your speed will be over 40 km/h the system will automaticly dissable the Lock mode so that you will need to enable it after pulling over.

The driver was giving more throttle to the Mitsubishi and kind of rocking it out and the tyres were catching the front edge of the roller frame . It seems to me that the x-trail is not even in 4x4 . My x-trail would roll over that without much wheel spin at all in 4x4 lock and in Auto it engages quicker than that . I try sometimes to spin my wheels on a dirt road using full throttle locked in first gear and in auto I get only a second of spin and then all tyres grip and that's with the 2.5 engine . And why are the cars on different rollers ? One is blue and the other red . Very questionable test . Are all the tyres at the same pressure ? Tests conducted like this are not fair to either car .
@4x4.tests.on.rollers
@4x4.tests.on.rollers 3 жыл бұрын
Both cars are using exactly the same awd system (mechanically), software is individual. Mitsubishi's TCS system needs more throttle to react. If tyres were catching front edge - it means that car already moved forward. Rollers are the same - they only have been repainted and cut at sides to avoid comments that tyres are catching the frame. Tyres pressure is correct for the cars. And you won't get power to all wheels faster, LOCK modes is locking the axles, not the wheels.
