Dag, dat is met de superlatief. Bijvoorbeeld: hij rijdt het snelst. Maar met de-substantieven kan je de gebruiken: dat is de snelste auto.

Bruh Duolingo told me to use het Meisje not de meisje. I’m only 1:28 in the video but meisje is a living thing since it means girl so now I’m just confused

Ah, the exceptions... It's a diminutive (usually -tje or -je), to say it's something small. We also say 'het' mannetje, the little man even though it's a living person.

Somehow it is: de is generally used for die and der, het is used for das.
