Someone else said it here as well, but yeah, as a former security guard, I can tell you engaging with someone like that is not in your job description. Your first role is as a deterrent, and when that fails, you can try to de-escalate and engage with someone like another civilian would (because that's what you are as a security guard; you have the same powers of arrest and duties to your fellow people as any other civilian), and if THAT fails, you retreat and call in law enforcement. Too many security guards fancy themselves badasses and wannabe cops.

Judging by the varying differences in location, it could very well be self defense. It's not like the guy is standing still while Scorpio goes around picking spots. They were probably engaged in a struggle in the ground, wrestling with the knife and Scorpio getting a stab where he can until he stops. People keep fighting on when stabbed.

If scorpio is working security and feels he needs protection, it might be a dangerous spot. I mean a guy lighting up a cigarette in the store is literally asking for trouble. And it's a truck rest stop. Lot's of disgruntled truckers. Last time I was at Love's, I got out the car, some trucker was walking my direction, leaving the store. He walked towards me and said, "they are playing games in there". I didn't know why he felt the need to tell me, so I politely responded "what happened?", and then the dude became irrate, said he was on the phone, started talking mad shit and threatened to break my neck. I coulda very easily landed in a Scorpio situation. Especially when someone threatens to end your life, and you have been there before, you aren't holding back or maintaining a fist fight.

Lighting a cigarette in a diner, truck stop, or etc. is usually the type of behavior you would see from an intoxicated and confrontational individual. I have seen people do that same thing at least 4-5 different times throughout the years. Every single time it’s a very intoxicated person trying to pick a fight, and there is always someone who thinks that they’re are going to be the one to put a stop to it. It usually results in a physical confrontation, or an outright fight, and the police always get involved. It almost always results in fines, arrests, and the local courts gaining a bit of revenue! 😂

Security are supposed to De-escalate a situation unless they are physically under threat, they aren't supposed to produce a deadly weapon and start shanking away because someone is being belligerent. "Bouncer" and "Security" I find are often words mixed up with "licensed to assault"

Most states have _indoor smoking bans_ that apply to the majority of all businesses, including gas stations.
