Dutch saved Championship Wrestling from Florida in 85 and 86. Mike Graham was in a shit storm over his dads death. And Dutch came in a took over after Dusty, and kept it going. We love Dutch here.

@@fillycheesefl same I just feel like I can watch street fights for free why pay really. Hell ufc didnt become successful until they used a wrestler brock Lesnar and they followed the wrestling formula. Ufc has had multiple owners. They copied wwe tough enough, went on after wrestling, and had a wrestler become there biggest star. Not to mention just like Muhammad ali they learned to do promos like wrestlers at least the biggest stars connor example

@@chrisortiz8072 UFC had success long before Brock, or Brock would have never signed. Tough Enough got them the fame. What ruins UFC is the cage. Too many guys just pin opponents against it and it's not fun. At least with ring ropes you can maneuver and make something happen rather than being mashed up against a chain link fence unable to put much power behind anything. Damn shame Pride got busted as being Yakuza funded and got completely fucked because they put on far more entertaining fights than the UFC does.

@@chrisortiz8072 It's pathetic, really. I tried to tell these MMA Autists the facts the other day and they couldn't debunk it. How is it that all the manly men from 100 years ago lived in a world dominated by Christianity, yet people can say that Christians are gay? Yet UFC became popular at the same time as Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus, and we're supposed to believe it's manly and tough. The coping is ridiculous. There aren't two popularities. There's only one popularity. The wind only blows one direction at a time.

@@AnsticePalo @Aurelian the ufc has been around since the early 90s. They've been sold at least 3 times to my memory. Brock got them at that time there biggest pay day. They made a gamble on Brock because his name and knew it would get media attention. People who were into ufc and wrestling would pay to see. Vince paid for wrestlemania and he wasnt raking in 100 million a year. He got names Etc a calculated risk samething. The company that bought ufc overpaid and isnt profitable because of this. They actually went public in the stock market hoping to offset this with the UFC as their flagship. The reason Brock and the tough enough copy helped ufc is because it captured fans from the wrestling audience. No one was talking about the ufc before this time frame. I'm 32 years old and have seen UFC when I was a child but no one ever knew what it was back then aside from a few dedicated fans. Personally I feel at times the ufc cage octagon ring what ever you want to call it is 2 big. It would be more entertaining if it was just a little smaller to force more interactions. To each his own though right. All this to the side grapplers do the best that is why martial artist started to train in amateur wrestling. It would be interesting to see them get a heavyweight Olympic gold medalist in there. Brock was just a college champion came in never training in martial arts before the UFC and destroyed. Imagine someone dedicated to the point of winning a gold medal. The biggest drawback would be if they couldnt get a hold of the mma fighter due to ring being so big.

I remember Lars Anderson. He had a run in the SF Bay area territory (Roy Shires) in the early 70's. He partnered with Paul Demarco and won the SF version of the NWA tag team title around '71. Pat Patterson turned face and teamed up with Rocky Johnson. They eventually took the belts from Anderson/DeMarco and both of them left the territory.

Championship Wrestling From Florida was full of legit guys. It’s amazing to think about the raw talent in terms of guys who had fantastic amateur wrestling backgrounds. Backlund, the Briscoes, Roop, Rotunda, and Buzz Sawyer were a few of the stand out talents. Eddie Graham was a big supporter of local scholastic wrestling programs.

Lars Anderson used to just use a simple crossface, and would keep shouting "Ask him!" to the ref. It's the same crossface that every high school wrestler learns. I laughed out loud when he said he used a Ganby (Granby) roll on Anderson. There is no way in hell to execute that move without practicing it over and over. You don't learn it by hearing about it on ABC Wide World of Sports. 🤣🤣🤣 On the other hand, Jerry of course, would've made short work of Anderson. And Roop wouldn't hurt anyone unless they were running their mouth.

@@kevthegoat8774 Roop did wrestle in high school but got involved in Greco while he was in the Army. He did make the 68 Olympic team as a heavyweight. Eddie Graham brought him down here because he loved amateur wrestling. Roop was ready to quit soon after he started, so Eddie purposely booked my father with him all over the state while he was breaking in. My father was a wrestling coach and had been in the business for a while. Mike Graham and Orton, jr were on his team as kids. My father didn't train Roop, but would've liked to. He always lamented about how good amateurs were being brought in and being trained to do the same crap that everyone was else doing, instead of focusing on their skills.

Slater was known for sucker punching people and Roop was an Olympic wrestler that used to show Slater how to defend himself if someone takes you down when he first got into the business, they were actually pretty friendly with each other. Blackjack Mulligan did in fact beat Bob Roop up when he sucker punched him, something Mulligan was known for doing.
