The bread is beautiful! So fun to use the Dutch oven. May I suggest a probe thermometer. No guessing if the bread is cooked inside. Should be about 200F degrees 93C when done. I also use a cast iron trivet in my DO. Helps to keep the bottom of your loaf from getting too dark. Love your channel.

Always helpful... I learned so much and appreciate the candid view of the baking experiment process, letting us walk through the trial and error with you VS. the perfectly edited wrapped up pretty version... the use of the parchment paper (brilliant), the tutorial with the charcoal starter and the use of the coals start to finish and seeing that method tweaked to get the desired result... how fun that you ended up with French toast (I was thinking bread pudding would've been yummy too! Thanks again as always, Wendy.... always a wealth, you, your spirit, and these sweet adventures...🙂

Have fun! Yes, it is fun and you can make a great pot of chilli or whatever. I really need smaller one for the two of us, however it great for bread etc to have a bigger one. I have a couple of cake recipes to try . Teens would love that.

How fun! Experiments are awesome. I think you're spot on about leaving it in the Dutch oven as it cools. French toast with it sounds amazing! The cabin is a perfect size, I think. And, Harley looks amazing for 12 1/2! Sweet boy 🐾♥️🐾

I love learning to use that dutch oven on an outdoor fire right along with you! I know that i can't check the bread i bake in the oven every 10 minutes because i lose too much heat interrupting the baking momentum. New sub.❤

Very cute cabin. Why did you choose not to have a kitchen and bathroom? Using your van for that?
@wendyoutdoors22308 ай бұрын
the cabin is water access only or hike in so no van. There is no running water, only a lake, so no bathroom, just an outhouse. As for the kitchen, the cabin had to be small for a number of reasons so a dry place to sleep was the priority. We don't use the cabin in the winter months much at all so cooking outside is almost always possible. Plus it is fun to cook outside. so hope that answered your questions. Thanks for sending them in.

Dutch oven temperature is slightly affected by air temperature, wind & humidity. You did just right by adjusting the time and moving coals around. Always remember that ash is an insulator - you can knock some of the ash covering off the briquettes & blow the ashes away a bit to increase heat.You are also correct that things continue to cook if you leave them in the Dutch oven off of the coals.Sometimes you want continued baking and sometimes you don't (particularly meat) 😊 Anytime you can make on your range or oven at home you can make in DO - Been using mine for 20 years and would not be without it.

Thanks so much. You sound like a very experienced dutch oven cook. I had not thought abut blowing off the coals. . all these hints are very helpful-

We gals have to fight the tide of time trying to beach us - aging is natural - atrophying is not. You keep doing what you're doing-you inspire us all 😊
