I still believe that the name Francis was a great choice, but I do agree in that Adrian was also an amazing choice, and hopefully we see another pontiff take the name in the future

When elected pope you have very limited time to choose a name for your pontificate and the overwhelming feeling being the new pope so we cannot just say Pope Francis miss the mark by not choosing “Adrian”

probably it was the short reign of Adrian that inhibits the choice of his name by successors... it is nevertheless the case that the Catholic Church, if we are allowed at all to speculate, would have turned out very differently if he had lived long enough to put into effect all the reforms that he wanted in the Church of his time...

The name Francis is appropriate for these times. Francis inspired a quiet revolution with regard to church corruption @ the time. For instance no t approving of the Crusades but not openly opposing them either. He chose to send missionaries & went to see the Caliph as well. Francis' pontificate seems to be the same. A quiet revolution against church corruption. St. Francis efforts resulted in the Franciscans being the largest missionary presence in the middle East to this day.

the first Christians in New Delhi were there already in 30 a.c. when one of the apostles went there to bring the gospel. First converts were early, just like they were in what we now call Turkey, Syria, Iraq, Iran, Greece, Spain etc. Many of those early Christians were murdered for their faith.

Sir, holy pope selection and taking any name is of holy spirit intercession. Nobody can use any political organizational powers in holy catholic Church. That is the tradition from early church.

It is typical of Dutch narcissism and ethnocentrism to complain even in a not so lefthanded way (sponsoring a symposium in Rome on the only Dutch pope no less!) that Bergoglio should have chosen Adrian as papal name rather than Francis. Adrian hinself evinced such Dutch trait when he chose his own name as papal name! But this should not detract from his achievement of reforming the curia. Ditto with Bergoglio, even if he chose Francis not Adrian as papal name.
