You forgot the most important knife in existence that must be immediately moved into the top three. The humble Mora Companion. Not because it is the best, but because everyone has one. After the apocalypse there will be one on every lifeless survivalist you stumble over.

Mora is great. I will tell you tho unless you get something like the Garburg its not survival ready... I used and abused a companion and the rat tang finally gave out after a few years of light to moderate use... a garburg tho 100% should have been on the list, I think the boys love their toys and perhaps forgot in a survival situation they prob wont have a few Japanese wetstones with them lol

My survival knife that I always have with me when I’m out in the woods is a SURVIVE! Knives GSO 4.7 in CPM3V. A knife I always have in my truck is the BK2. Knives I always have in my pocket are a Bradford Guardian 3 in M390 and a Leatherman wave.
@chrisinf-11b105 ай бұрын
And while I understand the intense anger at the Survive Knives company and especially at the owner, Guy, I still absolutely love my GSO-5.1 that I recently purchased from EBay and only took three days to receive in the mail. I own roughly 80 fixed blade knives right now and this is easily in my top five. I will be carrying this as my EDC for quite some time. For what it’s worth, my top five in my collection are as follows: 5. ESEE 6 4. Wander Tactical Smilodon 3. Extrema Ratio Dobermann IV 2. Chris Reeve Knives Pacific 1. Survive Knives GSO 5.1

I agree with one of the previous statements: "a 'survival' knife is indeed the one you have with you or as I call it the 'just in case' knife.." Few months ago I had bought TRC Polheim in Magnacut, I have it always in my bag as EDC for universal use. Did already a lot of work with it, even hard tasks and it is truly my "everyday survival - EDS :)
@thesilencer80745 ай бұрын
Architect manufactures knives almost identical to the GSO (the ARCHITECT FIELD BUDDY 6.5 or AK 6.5) with complete customization of the knife. It seems to me that they go through the same company for their heat treatment and their knives are now available in Magnacut (even if they are out of stock at the moment) and above all, no need to wait 3 years to receive it. On the other hand, I don't know at all if it is as good as the GSO but most of the reviews on the internet are very positive.
@griff77495 ай бұрын
I have the architect 6.5 and it's great but grind is less precise, so thicker behind the edge. And the factory edge was fat and uneven albeit sharp. Fit and finish isn't quite gso level. But besides that, pretty much a cheaper GSO, and I absolutely love it

Not having the Selvans in my small collection my top 3 knives at the moment are 3.) Extrema Ratio Dobermann IV Africa - what a beauty beast and great in chopping, batoning, good in feather sticking and ok with the fire steel. A bit heavy (390 g) but I love it. 2.) For me a 'survival' knife is indeed the one you have with you or as I call it the 'just in case' knife. It's the knife that you can manage a lot of tasks with but not a dedicated knife to any specific task. It has to be the knife you throw in your day pack on a dayhike or in your backpack on a longer hike or backpacking in far away countries. So I have some criteria like: lightweight, compact, stainless steel, plastic (kydex/zytel) sheath with good retention. I prefer an overmolded handle but nothing leather. So my top 3 are pretty similar exept for price. 1. Fallkniven R2 Scout (Elmax steel). 2. Mora Companion HD in stainless. 3. Mora Basic 546 or Hultafors RFR (both are stainless).

Not sure who told him people got their knives since the review video back in 2022. I still haven't been shipped mine. If you read Survive Facebook comments you will see backlash that cant be deleted compared to their YT filtered ones, took me a bit to learn that myself. Went from waiting on hardware, to sheaths, to hardware, to moving across country, to carburization, to waiting on more material for blanks, to carburization, to making other knives to make back profit to make knives that were already paid for, to now possibly having another company make their knives for them again. I have tried to get a refund, I have tried asking when it will ship(over a yr ago, and told soon). The owner got in way over his head and used a shady habit of preorder for everything and holds off until way past paypal's 180day claim period. Last video he had was saying something about states attorney coming after him, selling machines, blah blah blah. Sure they are nice for those who got some, but at what cost to others who rightfully should bitch.

I've had some Survive knives on order since Sept 2021. No response to emails, no knives. I bought one from them and received it, and it's fantastic, so ordered more, but those have never come and I can't get updates on orders.

If you were to prepare a go bag for the end of the world, do you think your list would change? I'm thinking perhaps you'd pack a 2 knife combo? 1 big and 1 small to compliment each other?

If i'd prepare for survival definitely. I (maarten) would bring something like my apocalypse and a smaller knife like our DBK Bushcrafter knife or something like an F1 or gunny.

I’d say the Extrema Ratio Selvan is definitely #1 without doubt…Rokka Korpisoturi #2 cost ,weight and versatility is paramount and #3 the F1 Pro #3!, any of these would be great , heck the whole list is great! I’m also a huge fan of the Joker nomads 5.0 & 6.5. The TERÄVÄ JÄÄKÄRIPUUKKO 140 and Joe X ‘s favorite ,especially with a few minor handle modifications, the gerber strongarm! Your DBK TRC Bushcrafter is also top tier too!!!
Even though I would never chose the Victorinox myself, I think Mickies arguments on it were spot on.

For my hands (steril glove size: L): 1. TOPS Knives: D.A.R.T. 2. ESEE 6 (Linen Micarta) 3. White River: URSUS 45 (Linen Micarta) Preferably as a 3 Knife System. I don't believe in One Knife Solutions! If I had to pick a One Knife Solution for the sake of mobility and weight reduction, I'd choose: Lion Steel: T5 (Micarta Handle Scales)

My money is on the modern bowie. If I have to "survive " , I like big blades and I can not lie. As long as it will carve feathers a big blade will also keep you safe

Your UG Tools demo gives me an idea: Why not make a knife whose finger guard is designed to help the blade split a piece of wood? When you baton the blade, the finger guard is steel, with a wedge shape actually helps pry the piece apart.

3:28 the drill bit can actually provide someone who has no skills in creating wood shavings with the blade, into being able to create them in a different way... Personally, my #1 is a Victorinox SAK: During conscription very long ago, with cans that had no opening, the Vic can opener was really great (the issued can opener was not for me), and later on, when opening anything i could not get open with my bare hands at work and for cooking, the Vic in my pocket did more for my survival than any of the nice fixed blades i have at home.
