Hi Kim, heel bedankt voor het goede video. Ik heb veel geleerd: vermakelijk = entertaining. Ik heb nu de eerste keer gemerkt dat moeijlijk van moeite aafgeleded is. Natuurlijk: wat een duis schwierig is, is ook mühsam en het komt von Mühe, is hetzelfde. Als duitsleraar leer ik veel voor duits. Ik zou de zelfde informatie in duits kijken, maar in nederlands leer ik meer. Het is gelukkig dat de verschillen tussen -baar en -lijk een duits dezelfden zijn.

I found that makkelijk came from "gemak". "De gemak" = "the comfort", which then gives us "gemakkelijk" which is basically the same as "makkelijk". "Moeilijk" comes from "moe" meaning "tired" so perhaps "moeilijk" was originally meant as "tiring" or "exhausting"? Makes sense to me if you consider what it means to be difficult. And lastly vrolijk is cognate with the English word "frolic", which both descend from proto Germanic "frawaz" meaning "happy" and is also related to the idea of jumping, where a happy person may be described as jumping and hopping around. So vrolijk meaning cheerful makes sense linguistically. Unlike the others, it doesn't derive from anything active in Dutch as far as i can find online. So i guess it makes sense to relate "vrolijk" with frolic since we actually got "frolic" from Dutch.

Het woord adjectief wordt vrijwel nooit gebruikt. Ik begrijp dat je dit woord gebruikt omdat het op "adjective" lijkt maar op school leer je over bijvoeglijke naamwoorden.

Fancy that huh Kim?! XD France’s literal translation in Dutch, “Frankrijk” is outdated! 😝😂 It’s all too obvious but I’m explaining it all anyway! 😜 France doesn’t use the French Frank anymore! Oh and did you know the Euro has been around for 20 years now? (23 if you count its invisible form in 1999?) And the French Revolution blatantly happened WAY…. Before the Euro was even thought of! 😜😂 So, yeah! Their empire/kingdom disappeared way before we were all born and yes! The French Revolution was NOT pretty and it was a huge struggle for the French but they got it right! Getting their republic of a nation to work somehow and they’ve been happy ever since! ;) And I was told it’s all thanks to Napoleon how and why you Dutch were bassakwards being a republic BEFORE becoming a kingdom! 😜😂
